Mr. Allen was born March 1, 1924 to the late William Tuttle Allen and Sallie Myers Allen. He was a retired farmer and a veteran of the U.S. Navy Seabees, having served in the Pacific Campaign during World War II. Mr. Allen was a member of the West Yadkin Baptist Church where he served on the Building and Cemetery Committees. As a life-long conservationist and farmer, he took his responsibilities to the land seriously. He served as a supervisor of the Yadkin County Soil and Water Conservation District for 34 years. During his tenure, he was instrumental in the establishment of the Deep Creek Dam Project. In addition to the Yadkin County Board, he was appointed for two terms to the N.C. Soil and Water Conservation Commission. In addition to his parents; he was preceded in death by a brother, A.G. Allen. He is survived by his wife, Angeline Wagoner Allen. He is also s! urvived by a son, Jeff Allen and daughter-in-law, Gay Allen; a daughter, Billie Allen Meeks; a grandson, Mark Allen Meeks; a sister, Mary Sparks; brother-in-law, Jack Sparks; and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by special friends, Bert Smyre, Ralph and Jetty Neal, and Ray and Jessie Neal. His Funeral Service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 22, 2010 at West Yadkin Baptist Church by the Rev. Dennis Bell and the Rev. Justin Crouse. Burial will follow in the Church cemetery with full military honors by Yadkin VFW Post 10346. The family will receive friends after the Service in the Sanctuary of the Church.
