She was born April 3, 1953 to the late Albert Pete & Bertha Hutchens Matthews. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers Michael Gray Matthews, Clark (CA) Matthews. "Shug", as she was lovingly known, was a fun-loving sister to her family, who loved to listen to music and wrestling on T.V. Survivors are Peggy (F.H.) Nichols, Lenoir; Jimmy (Jane) Matthews, Yadkinville; Nancy (Gene) Gilmore, Jonesville; Jack Matthews, Yadkinville; Rick (Sue) Matthews, Yadkinville; Libby Matthews, Yadkinville; Several aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday March 23, 2010 at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. Her funeral will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 24, 2010 at Gentry Family Chapel by Chaplain Hal Finney. Burial will follow at Prospect United Methodist Church.
