She was born May 1, 1948 in Surry County to the late Robert Monroe & Pauline Durham Newman. She was employed with Yadkin Valley Bank in Elkin and a member of Fall Creek Baptist Church. Surviving are her husband of 40 years Steve Chappell of the home; a daughter Love (Tim) Yarbrough, Clemmons; a grandson Timmy Yarbrough II; two sisters Bobbie Newman (Kent) Casstevens, Elkin; Vickie (Donnie) Adams, Advance; two brothers Robert Monroe (Linda) Newman, Jr., Rhonda; Ricky (Becky) Newman, State Road; brother-in-law Larry Chappell, Statesville; Several nieces and nephews. She will lie in state from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 15, 2010 at Fall Creek Baptist Church. Her funeral will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Thursday April 15, 2010 at the church, by the Rev.
