She was born January 3, 1924 in Yadkin County to the late Paul Calvin and Delsie Reece Gwyn. Mrs. Childress was a graduate of Boonville High School, and worked for several years at Blackwelders Knitting in Mocksville. She loved gardening, farming, playing bingo, word searches, and was a devoted homemaker. Mrs. Childress was a member of Charity Baptist Church and had attended Yadkinville Pentecostal Holiness Church. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Vern Childress; a daughter, Nancy Childress Peele; step-son, Bud Childress; 2 brothers, Everette Gwyn, Calvin Gwyn, and an infant sister. Surviving are her step-daughter, Katie Childress; sister, Katie G. Hagenah; brother, Wilson Gwyn; 2 grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and 2 step-great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Wednes! day at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. Her funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Thursday at the Gentry Family Chapel by Rev. Jimmy Lancaster. Burial will follow in the Charity Baptist Church Cemetery. Online condolences may be made to www.gentryfuner alservice.com.
