What we have is a newspaper article that indicates that Thomas left his family in Rowan or Wilkes county and went to Hamptonville to work in a hat shop run by Josiah Cowles. It indicated that he was there when he passed in 1836. As I mentioned we could not find his resting place in Wilkes or Rowan so we assumed that he may have been buried in Hamptonville. I do not know if in those days it would have been common to send the body back to the family for burial. If Josiah Cowles was a prominent businessman, I wonder if he had a family burial site where Thomas was laid to rest.
