He was born in Yadkin County on January 29, 1926 to John Burgess and Alice Lee Jester Hunt. He was a member of Mt. Bethel Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of World War II. Mr. Hunt retired from Blum Construction Company where he was involved in the restoration of Old Salem. Mr. Hunt was an avid bluegrass musician and enjoyed fishing and gardening. He was a loving and wonderful father and grandfather and a "paw paw" to others as well. Mr. Hunt was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Modell Potts Hunt; and sisters, Polly Speer, Catherine Hodges, Geneva Spillman, Pearl Smitherman, and Levada "J" Binkley. Surviving are his children, Kay Hunt (Wayne) Burnette of King, Sherry Hunt (Keith) Matthews and Terry (Neal) Hunt both of East Bend, Tammy Hunt (Jerry) Hauser of Advance, NC, and Dwain (Joy) Hunt of East Bend; a special friend, Louise McClamrock ! of Mocksville; one sister, Novella "Valley" Smitherman of East Bend; one brother, John Robert Hunt of East Bend; eleven grandchildren, Sondra Smith, Charles David Hutchens, Amanda Matthews-Barnett, Laura Matthews, Brad Neal Hunt, Jennifer Hunt Shupe, Kimberley Hunt Bokhoven, Jacob Hauser, Bryce Hauser, Caitlin Hauser, and Corey Dwain Hunt; seven great-grandchildren, Hunter Hutchens, Mattie Barnett, Alana Priest, Braylon Priest, Bailee Drum, McKenna Bokhoven, and Camdyn Hunt. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, May 26, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at the Huff Funeral Home Chapel in East Bend, with the Rev. Bobby Watts and Rev. Brian Chilton officiating. Burial will follow in the East Bend Friends Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Yadkin V.F.W. Post 10346. The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 25, 2010 at Huff Funeral Home from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the East Bend American Legion Post 336, East Bend, NC 27018.
