She was born June 14, 1951 in Yadkin County to the late J.C. and Edna Marie Goad Hutchens. Mrs. Speer was retired from Unifi with over 27 years of service. She was of the Baptist Faith and had been a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in her childhood. She was a loving wife, mother, and "Nanny" to her family, and enjoyed taking care of each of them. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her son, Terry Speer and a brother, Wayne Hutchens. Surviving are her devoted husband, Tommy Lee Speer, of the home; sons, Brent (Lisa) Speer, Boonville; Kent (Paula) Speer, East Bend; daughter, Leandra Speer, (Mickey) Burcham, Yadkinville; Sister-in-law Mia Steelman and her children Megan & Hunter Hutchens; 6 grandchildren, Brittany Speer, Miranda Speer, Andrew Speer, Kimberly Speer, Kailey Burcham, Reese Burcham; brothers, Tommy (Deany) Hutchens, Yadki! nville; Donny "Bunk" (Pam) Hutchens, Yadkinville; sister, Faye (Sam) Petro, Winston-Salem; Lynn (Henry) Reaves, Conway, SC; and several very special nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., Thursday, at Gentry Family Funeral Service, in Yadkinville. Her funeral service will follow the visitation at 4:00 p.m., Thursday, in the Gentry Family Chapel, by Rev. Paul Wyatt and Rev. Ricky Burcham. Burial will follow in Solid Rock Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, PO Box 1267, Yadkinville, NC 27055. The family would like to express their gratitude to Lynn Cave Alpin, Tracy Hiatt, and Kathy "Mop-n-GLo" of Hospice, as well as, Zane and Susan Johnson, for all the loving care given to Mrs. Speer during her illness.
