He was born November 28, 1920 in Yadkin County to the late Marvin and Della Holcomb. He lived in the Mitchell's Chapel community and early in life attended Mitchell's Chapel United Methodist Church. He served in the U.S. Army at the rank of Corporal with General George Patton during the Normandy Invasion. He was retired from Vaughn Basset Furniture Company. In addition to his parents, his was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Mary Gray Holcomb in January 2006; sister, Lucy Reece; brother, Sanford Holcomb. He is survived by his son, Steven F. (Judy) Holcomb; grandsons, Christopher Holcomb and Steven Holcomb; great grandchildren, Rebecca Holcomb and Steven Holcomb; brothers, Oscar Holcomb, Hugh Holcomb; sisters, Mary Casstevens, Edna Mae Caldwell; step grandsons, Dale Robinson, Justin Wright; step great grandchildren, Brandon Robinson, Baily Robinson, Trent W! right; several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at Mitchell's Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery by the Rev. Charles Turner with full military honors by Yadkin VFW Post 10346. Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville is serving the Holcomb family.
