She was born January 11, 1921 in Yadkin County to the late DeEtte and F. E. Simmons. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Dumont Daye; sisters, Loas Tharington, Lucy Puryear; brothers, Arnold Simmons, Thomas Simmons. Surviving are her children, Mary Jo (Ronnie) Cook, Barry (Chrishy) Daye; granddaughter, Tara (Keith) Shoaf; step grandchildren, Kaitlyn Dodson, Kyle Dodson, Tracey Lawrence; great granddaughter, Whitney Shoaf; step great grandchildren, Hasten Lawrence, Heather Lawrence, Hunter Lawrence, Housten Lawrence; brothers, Delmer Simmons, Burley Simmons; very special friend and caregiver, Elsie Jester. Her funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 8, 2010 at Shady Grove Baptist Church, with the Rev. Paul Stewart and the Rev. Charles Jones officiating. She will lie in-state 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in the ch! urch cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, January 7, 2010 at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville.
