She was born in Buck Shoal on January 25, 1915, daughter of the late Ulysses and Mary Cheek Shore. Mrs. Mills graduated from Woman's College (UNCG) in 1937 and moved to Concord to teach at Winecoff School. Audree married Harold L. Mills on July 7, 1940 and became a designer for Mills Florist. In time she and Harold became owners of the florist, a business created in 1926 by his mother, Alice Litaker Mills. Audree became manager of the Concord florist and retired after a stroke in 1994 at the age of 79. Audree attended Asbury Methodist Church in Hamptonville and McGill Baptist Church in Concord. She remained close to her family in the Elkin area. The Shore and the Mills families shared in visits and holidays. Audree was very active in the Pilot Club in Kannapolis. She enjoyed the friendships and the work through service that the Pilot members give to their commu! nity. Audree and Harold participated in FTD and Southern Retail Florists Association, attended state, regional, and national meetings. They had no children, but were close to their nieces and nephews. Audree was widowed in February of 2008. She is survived by her sister, Mildred June Grubb of Charlotte; brothers, Claude Shore of Carolina Beach and Colon Shore of Hamptonville, and many Shore nieces and nephews; and sister and brother-in-laws, Sarah Mills Dayvault of Kannapolis, Dot Mills Steen of Marshville, Roy and Ann Mills of Lexington, Alex and Joann Mills of Rome, GA, Nell Mills Mitchell and husband, Marian of St. Petersburg, FL, and many Mills nieces and nephews. The Shore and Mills families would like to express a deep gratitude to Bayada for their excellent care these past 3 years. We wish you could have been with her 4 years earlier. Della Pearson, Cynthia Hammonds, Michelle Batts, Debra Swaringen, Barbara Murray, Annette Rice, office staff, and substitutes watched ! over her and kept her comfortable. The Tucker Hospice House staff was so gracious. Thank you. The family will receive friends from Noon to 2 PM on Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at Wilkinson Funeral Home. The service will be at 2 PM in the Chapel. Interment will follow the service in Oakwood Cemetery. On line condolences may be left at www.wilkinson funeralhome.com.
