He was born December 28, 1923 in Yadkin County to the late Homer Pleas and Eda Matthews Williams. Mr. Williams was a loving and devoted husband, father and "Grandad" to his family. He enjoyed spending time with his family, farming and loved his church. He was a lifelong member of Pilot View Friends Meeting where he served as Clerk of Monthly Meeting for many years and was a trustee and member of the House & Grounds and Cemetery committees. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a Bronze Star recipient. He was a Prisoner of War, captured in Italy and held in Germany for 9 months before his release. He was co-owner of Williams and Gentry Grocery and Meat Processing in Yadkinville, where he worked for over 30 years with his wife, Margaret, and brother-in-laws Frank and George Gentry. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 64 years, Margaret Gentry Williams, his father and birth mother, as well Lucille Warden Williams, who he knew as his mother most of his life, He was also preceded in death by his brother Brice Richard Williams. Surviving are his daughters, Delores (David) Mabe and Wanda (Charles) Brintle of Yadkinville, and Janet (Jerry) Anderson of Pilot Mountain; grandchildren, Jeremy (Krista) Willard, Matthew Mabe, Jacob, Katie and Maggie Brintle, James and Joshua Anderson; great-grandchildren Weston and Spencer Willard and sister Nell Hunter of Boonville. The family will receive friends Tuesday, Jan. 12 at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville from 6-8 pm. The funeral will be held Wednesday, Jan, 13 at Pilot View Friends Meeting at 4 pm by Rev. Nelson Puffenbarger and Richard Hauser. He will lay in state for 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors by Yadkin VFW Post 10346.
