He was born July 19, 1948 in Yadkin County to the late Luke and Dorethie Matthews Saunders. Mr. Saunders loved his family and was a great neighbor for the community. He worked for C.W. Electric Company with 20 years of service, and was a member of Mt. Carmel Friends Meeting. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his three sisters, Jessie Pearl Myers, Mary Blanche Weatherman, and Betty Jean Goodboe. Surviving are his beloved wife of 17 years, Brenda C. Saunders, of the home; a son, Luther Shane Saunders; step-son, Daniel (Mandy) Starling; three grandchildren, Meredith, Michael, and Brittany Saunders; two step-granddaughters, whom he loved very much, Karson and Katie Starling; step-grandson, John David Kent; step-granddaughter, Michelle Casstevens; three sisters, Zena Fleming, Shirley McIntosh, Patti (Tim) Ratledge; two brothers, Junior Sa! unders, Thomas Saunders; mother-in-law, Dorothy Carter; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. His Funeral Service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Mt. Carmel Friends Meeting by the Rev. Jeff Farmer and the Rev. Lenuel Lusk. He will lie in-state 30 minutes prior to the Service. Burial will follow in the Church cemetery.
