He was born June 30, 1925 to Thomas & Bessie Caudle Casstevens. Mr. Casstevens was a graduate of Boonville High School Class of 1947 where he played football, baseball, and basketball. He retired from Krispy Kreme Doughnut Corp. with 29 years of service. He was a veteran of World War II serving with the U.S. Army as a surgical technician, 357th Infantry, 90th Division, in Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe. He received several medals: including the Purple Heart, Bronze Star Medal with Two Oak Leaf Clusters, and a Good Conduct Medal. One of his Citations reads, "On 4 April, 1945 in the vicinity of Marksuhi, Germany on an open plain, his platoon was pinned down by machine gun fire and six men were wounded. T/5 Casstevens subjected himself to intensive fire, administered first aid to casualties, then returned for litter bearers, led them through sma! ll arms fire, and evacuated the wounded men. His heroic service aided materially in saving the lives of several casualties." He was a member of Pilot View Friends Meeting where he served on the Ministry and Council, as well as the House and Grounds Committees. He is survived by his beloved and devoted wife of 63 years, Hazel Hutchens, and also by one daughter, Renee (Andy) Williams and two grandchildren, Kayla (Kenny Bentley) and Justin Williams. They were the apple of his eye. They were so precious to him. He is also survived by one sister, Irene Sizemore Pinnix of Boonville, NC; brother, George Casstevens & wife Ruth of Jonesville, NC; Mitchell Casstevens & wife, Cora Lee of East Bend, NC; brother, Frank Casstevens & wife, Marylin of Advance, NC; also surviving are several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. The Funeral Service will be Friday 3 p.m. at Pilot View Friends Meeting with Reverend Nelso! n Puffenbarger and Reverend Hewey Parrish officiating. Burial will fol low in the Church cemetery with full Military Honors by Yadkin VFW Post 10346. We would like to thank all the nurses and staff on the 8th floor at Forsyth Medical Center, along with the doctors. They were all such caring people.
