He was born November 18, 1922 in Wilkes County to the late Jessie Steve and Flora Almedia Hemric. Mr. Hemric retired with 47 years of service from Chatham Manufacturing as a chemist. He attended Yadkinville Pentecostal Holiness Church as long as his health permitted, and was a veteran of World War II, serving with the US Army as a Sargeant. During his service he guarded several German P.O.W.'s, worked with and befriended them, enabling him to communicate using the German Language. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen Salmons Hemric on July 13, 2000; a son, Steve Harvey Hemric, Jr.; a grandson, Niles Wynnter Nance; two brothers and three sisters. Surviving are his daughter, Linda Kay Hemric, Greensboro; a son, Dave (Sharon) Hemric, Mooresville; Grandchildren, Scotty Hemric, Bracky Hemric, Sum! er Nance-Geiser, Lindsay Hemric, Brittany Hemric, Matthew Hemric; great-grandchildren, Autumn Nance, Rindi Hemric, Dawson Geiser; a sister, Pauline Hemric Pardue; and two brothers, Fred Hemric, Weaver Hemric. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. His funeral service will follow the visitation at 3:00 p.m. in the Gentry Family Chapel, by Rev. James Williams, Matthew Hemric, Sumer Nance-Geiser, and Autumn Nance. Burial will follow in the Center United Methodist Church Cemetery with full military honors by Yadkin VFW Post 10346. Memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice PO Box 1267, Yadkinville, NC 27055. The family would like to express their gratitude to the nurses and staff of Mountain Valley Hospice and Yadkin Valley Community Hospital for their care and support given.
