He was born April 20, 1932 in Surry County to the late Ed and Annie Hodge Beamer. Mr. Beamer was retired with 30 years of service from the North Carolina Dept. of Transportation in Bridge Maintenance. After his retirement, Ernest enjoyed working with his Honeybees, making various pieces of furniture, and other woodworking jobs. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his two brothers, Fred and Grady Beamer; and by an infant sister. Surviving are his beloved wife of 52 years, Melba Howell Beamer, of the home; three children, James S. Beamer, Elkin, Susan Beamer (Kenneth) Stokes, Yadkinville, Janet Beamer (Teddy) Snow, Elkin; nine grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren, including his special buddy, Austin James "A.J" Sebastian, that gave him so much joy in his last 6 years; sisters, Betty Atkinson, Sylvia (! Jim) Forsyth; three brothers, John (Ethel) Beamer, Frank (Jane) Beamer, Bill (Laura) Beamer; and a special friend, Shelby Cline. The family will receive friends from 12:30-2:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 9, 2010 at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. His Funeral Service will follow the visitation at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Gentry Family Chapel by the Rev. Steve Harrellson. Burial will follow in the Harmony Grove Friends Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, PO Box 1267, Yadkinville, NC 27055. Online condolences may be made to www.gentryfuneral service.com.
