Nancy was born in Raleigh on December 13, 1928, to the late Noel Green Blackard and Eleanor Boing Blackard. She was a devoted friend, daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother, "Mema". She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 58 years, William Jefferson Dobbins and her sister, Rebecca "Susie" Blackard Avent. She is survived by her children: Jeffrey Joel Dobbins of Tucson, AZ, Daniel Gray Dobbins and wife, Tracy of Greensboro; and daughter, Gwyn Dobbins Nixon and husband, Christopher of Thurmond; brother, William N. Blackard and wife, Pat of Lewisville; brother-in-law, Edward Avent of Fayetteville; sister-in-law, Mary Lou Shore and husband, Henry of Boonville; five grandchildren, Jessica Dobbins McCaskill, Savannah Dobbins Richards, Zachary Joel Dobbins, Gillian Gray Dobbins, an! d Benjamin Edward Nixon; one great grandson, William Edward Nixon; and nine nieces and nephews. Nancy attended Needham Broughton High School in Raleigh and graduated from the Baptist Hospital School of Nursing in Winston-Salem. She retired from Hoots Memorial Hospital in Yadkinville after almost 20 years of dedicated service. Nancy was an active member of Boonville Baptist Church for 61 years where she taught Sunday school and served in various positions in the church. She enjoyed volunteering with Meals on Wheels, Yadkin Christian Ministries and tutoring in the local school system. To celebrate her life, a Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, July 3, at 3 p.m. at Boonville Baptist Church, 201 Baptist Church Road, Boonville, NC, 27011, with the Reverend Ken Boaz officiating. Family will receive friends one hour before the Service. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Boonville Baptist Church or the Palliative Care Unit of Wake Forest University Baptis! t Medical Center.
