She was born March 1, 1924 in Yadkin County to the late Joseph William and Leola Phillips Garner. Edith spent the majority of her life in Bethesda, MD where she worked for the National Institute of Health for 33 years. She moved back to Yadkin County in 1991 after the death of her husband, Dr. Norman Edward Sharpless. She wrote a 300 page book of Phillip's family history; she was a member of the DAR; and she spent a number of years doing genealogy research of families. Edith was a lifetime member of the Yadkin Historical Society and a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Kensington, MD. In addition to her parents and her husband; she was preceded in death by her sister, Kathryn Garner; and brother, Thomas William Garner. Surviving are her brother, J.D. (Grace) Garner; nephews, Tommy (Brenda) Garner, Greg Garner, Rick (Lorna) Garner, John (Leslie) Klossner, William Klossner; nieces,! Connie (Ronnie) Macemore, Mary Coburn, Susan Smith, Kate Sharpless; and several cousins and other family members. Her Graveside Service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 23, 2010 at Baltimore United Methodist Cemetery by the Rev. Patty Choplin. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Baltimore United Methodist Church, 2419 Baltimore Rd., East Bend, NC 27018. Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville is serving the Sharpless family.
