He was born in Yadkin County, October 21, 1920, son of the late James and Nellie Proctor. On March 20, 1948, he married Rosalene Lunsford, who preceded him in death on December 23, 2005. He was a member of Oakdale Baptist Church, which he helped to establish in 1960. He is a World War II veteran having served in Europe. He enjoyed reading his bible daily having read it through 66 times. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and cooking. He was affectionately known as the "chewing gum man" at Church where he handed out gum to hundreds of children over the years. He is survived by three daughters: Katrina Proctor Redmond and husband, Dr. Barry Redmond, Kristy Proctor Ruth and husband, Wilson Ruth, Kylene Proctor Johnson and husband, Karl Johnson, all of Statesville; six grandchildren: Kaley Flowers and husband, Daniel, Kara Osbo! rne and husband, Marcus, Kammie Ruth, Kestler Ruth, Katie Scarlett Johnson and Kristian Johnson; four great-grandchildren: Kaydan and Kelsey Flowers, Karsyn and Mack Osborne. Also surviving are two sisters: DeEtte Johnson of Summerville, SC, and Jane Smith of Yadkinville. Services are scheduled for Monday, June 28, 2010, at 2 p.m. at Oakdale Baptist Church with the Revs. David Knapp and Greg Barefoot, and Kestler Ruth officiating. Burial will follow in Iredell Memorial Gardens with full military rights accorded by the burial detail of the Iredell County Veterans Council. The family will receive friends from 12 noon to 2 p.m. prior to the Service in the Church Sanctuary, and at other times will assemble at the residence of Dr. and Mrs. Barry Redmond, 174 W. Imperial Heights, Statesville, NC. Memorials may be given to Oakdale Baptist Church, 585 Mocksville Highway, Statesville, NC 28625; or Gordon Hospice House, 2341 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625.
