After an eight-month battle with cancer, our beloved wife, mother and Nana, Phyllis Ann Crook, of Joyner Road, Yadkinville, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2008, at her home. She was born March 27, 1949, in Yadkin County to the late Alvin E. and Madge Long Swisher. Phyllis went to West Yadkin School and worked with Unifi for 27 years. She was currently employed by Yadkin County schools as the maintenance department secretary and was a member of Hanes Grove United Methodist Church. Phyllis loved life, her family and dear friends. She spent her spare time laughing and playing with her grandchildren. Anyone who knew Phyllis felt her immense love and never-ending loyalty. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her sister, Lois Renegar; and four brothers-in-law, Harvey Wagoner, Red Renegar, Michael Crook and Warren Steelman. Surviving are her devoted husband of 42 years, ! Jerry Crook of the home; loving daughters Annette (Scott) Johnson and Amy (Michael) Fann, all of Yadkinville; grandchildren Ashley and Abbey Johnson and Brady Fann; brothers and sisters Francis (Laura) Swisher, Zelma (Roy) Eddleman, Nancy (Olon) Steelman, Nellie Wagoner, Mary Ruth (Johnny) Richardson and Fred (Brenda) Swisher; and several nieces and nephews. Her funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, at Sandy Springs Baptist Church, with the Rev. Mac Warren, the Rev. David Kiser and the Rev. Scott Hammer officiating. She will be in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will follow in Hanes Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery. Hi Nancy, Do you have anything on a James Archibald STEWART (1859-1897) and from Harnett County, NC? He married Laura A. SMITH (1852-1915) a daughter of George A. SMITH of Stokes County)? She was a member of Northwoods Baptist Church in Winston-Salem. Leona was a loving Christian mother and grandmother. Having lived with her daughter and son-in-law for 18 years, Leona inspired everyone she met. She loved gardening, baking and most of all she loved her grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Leona was preceded in death by her husband whom she adored for 63 years, Noah Andrew Marshall, who died May 7, 1990; as well as two sisters; and two brothers. She was also the first president of the Boonville Women' s Club and worked approximately 40 years at Elkin Lumber Co. as a secretary and bookkeeper. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, James Ralph Fletcher, G.N. Dobbins and Oliver S. Turner; and a stepchild, Bill Dobbins. She was born May 12, 1920, to the late Martin and Julie Pardue. On May 14, 1939, she married Kermit Phillip Pardue, who died March 28, 2006. Mrs. Pardue worked for many years at the Carolina Bloomer Factory until her retirement. She was a wonderful cook and a talented seamstress. She enjoyed baking, canning and handcrafting quilts and other items for her family and friends. Mrs. Pardue was a member of Union Baptist Church and attended regularly as long as her health permitted. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Pardue was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda King; granddaughter Rachael Whitaker; sisters Polly Prevette and Edith Bell; and brothers Armstrong Pardue, Tom Pardue and Arvil Pardue. Mrs. Pardue is survived by three children; Phyllis Caudle and husband Roger of Hamptonville; Gale Whitaker and husband Jerry of Johnson City, Tenn.; an! d Dale Pardue and wife Brenda of Hamptonville; seven grandchildren, Pam Long, Jim Whitaker, Brian Whitaker, Melissa King, Matt Pardue, Julie Santuccio and April Pardue; and 13 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her brother, Joe Pardue; and sister Kate Somers. Mrs. Pardue' s funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 30, at Union Baptist Church, with the Rev. Kenny Pardue officiating. She will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today, Dec. 29, at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Davie County or to Union Baptist Church, 919 Union Baptist Church Road, Hamptonville, NC 27020.
