Baity Succumbs Here John Lewis Baity, 88, of 117 East Harrison Street, died yesterday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. Leo Stiller of the Charlotte Highway. He had been in declining health several years and seriously ill since February. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 2 o'clock in the Stallings Memorial Baptist Church with the Rev. J. B. Gibson officiating. Burial will follow in the Courtney Baptist Church cemetery in Yadkin County. The body will lie in state in the church for 30 minutes prior to final rites and will be at the Summerset Funeral Home until moved to the residence of Mrs. Stiller at 3 o'clock today. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Rowan County Rescue Squad. Mr. Baity was born in Yadkin Countyy on September 12, 1872, son of the late George and Julia Henderson Baity. He received his education in the Yadkin County Schools and was employed in the carpenter trade most of his life, retiring several years ago. He was a member of the Stallings Memorial Baptist Church and active in its work and that of his Sunday School class until his health failed. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Eliza Shoaf Baity, to whom he was married April 9, 1899; four sons, Marvin Baity of Kannapolis, Dallas R., George E. and Odell Baity, all of Salisbury; his daughter, Mrs. J. Leo Stiller; one brother, A. C. Baity of Forsyth County; three sisters, Mrs. I. I. Baity of Yadkinville, Miss Ollie V. Baity and Mrs. A. A. She was a Sunday school teacher, church clerk and sang in the choir when she was able to be there. She also had many pastors and missionaries over for a meal. She was a census taker in her earlier years, worked in Stacie' s Bake Shop, also worked at Starmount High School Cafeteria and worked for several years in the offices of Huff Funeral Home in Boonville and Jonesville. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 49 years, Herman Fletcher Bryant; a sister, Eleanor Sharpe; and a brother, Emil Krombholz. He was born in Yadkin County on Dec. 25, 1937, to William Henry and Hazel Murphy Murphy. Mr. Murphy attended Stony Knoll United Methodist Church. He graduated from East Bend High School in 1957. He was a pitcher for East Bend High School baseball team, where he lettered all four years. Later on, he was a pitcher with the East Bend Food Land slow pitch softball team and played and coached for various other teams. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in Korea. He worked at Hanes Hosiery until they closed and later he retired from Stroh' s Brewery. He enjoyed all types of sports with golf and slow pitch softball being his favorites. The times he spent playing golf with his friends were among his most pleasurable. He was a loving husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, brother and brother-in-law. He volunteered in the transportation department during the Cro! sby, the Vantage, and the RJR Championship golf tournaments. Mr. Murphy was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Dean Murphy and Jerry Murphy. Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Ruby Hennings Murphy of the home; two daughters, Jennifer (David) Phillips Jr. of East Bend, and Heather (Brent) Russell of Huntersville; a sister, Peggy (Larry) Hauser of Yadkinville; four grandchildren, Courtney and Austin Phillips and Jacob and Ethan Russell; and numerous nieces and nephews. Lydia was born about 1827 in NC and Jane about 1834 in NC. A Jane Warden, b. 1832 NC is living in Surry, NC in 1850, two farms away from John and Arabelle Bovender, Lydia¹s parents. Lester was born July 16, 1939, in Troy, to Earl and Bertha Kelly Hogan. He served in the U.S. Air Force for 21 years and retired in 1977. He began a second career with Integon and retired in 2001 with 21 years service. He is survived by his son, Brian of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; and his daughter, Rebecca Miller (Todd) of Mocksville. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Michael, Chaydyn and Trycyn Hogan of Victorville, Calif., as well as Jacob and Julie Miller of Mocksville. A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice and Palliative CareCenter, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103. The family wishes to thank the staff of the Palliative Care Unit of Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center for their wonderful care of Lester. She was born Nov. 29, 1921, in Yadkin County to the late Quincy T. and Blanche Tutterrow Holland. Mrs. Forman was a graduate of Wilkes Community College where she received her L.P.N. degree, and received numerous certificates from Forsyth Technical College in Winston-Salem. After graduation, she held several positions at Lula Conrad Hoots Memorial Hospital in Yadkinville, including supervisor and department head of physical therapy, organized and managed respiratory and physical therapy department, and a charge nurse. Nellie was a remarkable lady, often referred to as "Florence Nightingale" due to her caregiving nature and love for nursing. She lived for others and was loved by all that knew her. She spent her last three years as a resident at Yadkin Nursing Center, where she had worked as a nurse in years past. She continued her nursing profession throughout h! er stay at Yadkin Nursing Center by bringing joy and comfort to so many of the residents. She loved music, fellowship with family, friends, and residents, and attended all church functions and activities held at the nursing home. She was also a member of Zion Baptist Church in Union Grove. Nellie was a wonderful, loving mother and grandmother and will always be cherished by her family. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husbands, Walter Forman and C.V. Hall; brothers, Carroll Holland, R.B. Holland, Herbert Holland; sisters, Betty Johnson, Ila Monico; and half brothers, George Holland, Sam Holland, Claude Holland, Adron Holland. Surviving are her son, Vernon Hall and wife Brenda of Statesville; daughters, Edith Madison and husband Raymond of Lewisville, Judi Ward and husband Gary of Cedar Point, Karen Talbot of Sarasota, Fla.; grandchildren, Richard Madison and wife Sandra, Gregory Madison and wife Vicky, Todd Hall, Brad Hall, Angela Hartness, ! Julie Brydges and husband Mark, Jill Styron, Jason Haynes, Anna Talbot ; great-grandchildren, Gus Hartness, Garrett Hartness, Andi Hall, Taylor Styron, Lauren Styron; sisters, Laura Wike and husband Edd of Cocoa, Fla., Gladys Ginnetti of Revere, Mass., Lura Hoots of Lewisville, Lenette Murphy of Union Grove; a brother, Perry "Bud" Holland and wife Patty of Union Grove; two stepchildren, Walter Forman, Anne Saile; three stepgrandchildren; and four stepgreat-grandchildren. Her funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday, April 1, at Zion Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dennis Shaw and the Rev. Joey Tomlin officiating. She will lie in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
