See 1870 Census, Yadkin County, where they are living in the household of their father, Hugh Bryant. Nancy Jane is 14 and Mary is 12. Nancy Jane Bryant married 1st Columbus Casstevens. He died in 1907. She married 2nd M. L. Sain (not Swain or Swaim). She died Feb. 16, 1917, and was buried at Mitchell's Chapel. There may not be a tombstone for her. She adopted a boy, Scott Wood. N. P. Bryant was appointed his guardian in 1918. In her will Nancy left a house in Davie County to her husband, M. L. Sain. She also left a lot in the town of Yadkibville to the adopted son, Scott ood "Casstevens." Casstevens. He married Nancy J. Bryant 9 26 1878 in Yadkin County. Nancy was the daughter of Hugh Bryant & Jane Patterson. Columbus was born 9 4 1856 died 9 27 1907, and is buried at Mitchell's Chapel Methodist church. Information that I have is that Nancy remarried after his death to a Swaim. There is a death certificate in Yadkin for a Mary Jane Swaim b.2 27 1856 died 2 15 1917. Her parents were listed as Hugh Bryant & Jane Patterson. She is listed as buried at Mitchell's Chapel. No spouse given on record, however indicates she was married at the time of her death. Informant was her brother William R. Bryant. I believe this record is the same Nancy Jane wife Columbus Casstevens, and later married a Swaim after his death. Carl Hoots " Cemeteries of Yadkin County" does not record this burial. I know that Hugh Bryant & Jane did have a daughter Mary but she first married Fletcher Adams, married 2nd Joel Franklin Vestal. She is buried at Shady Grove. Any help in who Nancy Jane Bryant Casstevens married 2nd(Swaim) who be appreciated Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Yes I have seen that one but am not sure that it is correct. I plan on going to Yadkin sometime and look at the court house records there since I only live a couple of hours away. My oldest brother and sister are really the only ones who spent any time with her while she was alive. And you know how kids are, they didn't pay attention when she was talking about her family. So all we have to go on is what they think they remember. She passed away in 1960 in Wythe Co., Va. but we can't even find a death record for her. She evidently never had a Social Security number. I called the funeral home that handled her burial today but they don't keep records that long. So I may have to send off for her death certificate from Richmond. It has been a very frustrating search to say the least. That is the only part of my tree that is at a stand still. I did put the info that you are talking about in my tree for her for awhile but couldn't even get a hit off of that ! either. It's a big mystery to me and our family why we can't seem to find anything concrete about her. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
