She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband: Alex Houston Frye, Sr. on September 30, 2006, a daughter:Wanda Lou Frye, a sister: Bessie Harris, a brother: Dallas Robert Hutchens, and a great-grandson: Nathan Willard. Surviving are her children: Alex Houston (Shelba) Frye, Jr., Larry (Janice) Frye, John Major (Pam) Frye, and Nancy Clementine (Ronnie) Seats, all of Yadkinville. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Rufus Shaffner, Vernon Shaffner and David Wayne Shaffner; and a great-granddaughter. Survivors include former husband Harvey D. Wagoner; a daughter, Debbie Collins of Elkin; two sons, Bobby Lee Wagoner of Hamptonville and Donnie Keith Wagoner of Jonesville; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Magdalene Reeves of Jonesville. He was also a veteran of the U. S. Navy. Mr. Hoots is survived by two daughters:, Jerri Lin (Andy) Spillman of Yadkinville and Stacy Michelle Hoots of Gastonia and a sister: Dorothy "Dot" Reid of High Point. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hoots was preceded in death by a daughter: Jenny Mae Hoots, four brothers: Clyde, June, Conrad and Robert Hoots and a sister: Sue McMahan. She was born February 13, 1918 in Yadkin County to the late George and Isa Todd Miller. Mrs. Pettit worked for several years on the farm with her husband, and at Hoots Memorial Hospital in the cafeteria. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and homemaker to her family, and was well known through the community for her wonderful chicken, pumpkin, chocolate, and coconut creme pies. She loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and at the age of 12, she accepted Christ and joined the church that her father and grandfather helped to organize, Turner's Creek Baptist Church. She remained a faithful member to the church and sang in the choir as long as her health permitted. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her beloved husband of 68 years: Howard Lindsey Pettit, by an infant daughter: Patricia Ann Pettit, her daughter: Betty Jean Clarkson, grandson: Tim Clarkson, and a great-granddaughter: Emily Clarkson and was the last of 5 brothers and 1 sister. Surviving are her devoted children: Gaynell (Jimmy) Brawley, Linda (Jimmy) Tucker, Dennis (Dianna) Pettit, all of Yadkinville, her son-in-law: William Clarkson, seven grandchildren: Mark (Lorie) Clarkson, Stacey (Sharon) Clarkson, Vann (Melissa) Brawley, Derick Tucker, Jonathan (Susan) Pettit, Brad (Keri) Pettit, Amy (Kevin) Heath, granddaughter-in-law: Crystal Clarkson, 14 great-grandchildren: Seth Clarkson, Josh Disher, Travis Disher, Adam Clarkson, Tyler Clarkson, Josh Clarkson, Jonathan Loflin, Samuel Brawley, Caleb Brawley, Brandy Tucker, Jessica Tucker, Dylan Hutchens, Austin Heath, Kayla Heath, Lucas Pettit, Austin Jones, and Jacob Pettit. Sparks, Sr. and the late Minnie Vestal Sparks. Prior to the last six years, Mr. Sparks lived in Winston-Salem, working at A&P and retiring from North Carolina Baptist Hospital. He loved gardening and reading the Bible and was a member of First Baptist Church in Winston-Salem. He will be remembered by family and friends for the many flowers and camellias he planted and shared. Mr. Sparks is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ruby Palmer Sparks, also of The Carriage Club Healthcare; a daughter, Bonnie S. Parrish, and husband, Vernon R. Parrish, Jr. of Charlotte; and two grandchildren, Amanda L. Parrish and Ray M. Parrish. In addition to his parents, Mr. Sparks was preceded in death by a sister, Doris M. He was born July 19, 1927 in Yadkin County to the late John D. and Trular Weatherman Casstevens. Mr. Casstevens was a graduate of Appalachian State University and taught for 13 years in the Davidson County School System. He was also the co-owner and manager of Kannapolis Village and Catawba House Rest Homes. Mr. Casstevens was a veteran of the US Army serving in the Korean War, and was a member of Mitchells Chapel United Methodist Church, Newton Lions Club, and Yadkin VFW Post 10346. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Sherrill Casstevens. Surviving are his wife Phyllis M. Casstevens, of the home; his daughter, Rebecca Tyson, Kannapolis, NC; six step-children, Xiena (Charbel) Farah, Chino, Ca; Kathy (Kelly) Pfouts, Smithville, KY; Joe (Peggie) Cook, Jonesville; Angel Schmidt, Atlanta, Ga; Worth (Susan) Cook, Swainsboro, Ga.; Audra ! (Mark) Tyler, Lexington, NC; a sister, Lucille (William) Reavis, Courtney; two brothers, Gray (Mary Lee) Casstevens, Carl Casstevens, all of Yadkinville; 14 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 5:00 P.M., Thursday, at Mitchells Chapel United Methodist Church. His funeral service will follow the visitation in the church at 5:00 P.M,, Thursday, with Rev. Charles Turner, officiating. She was born July 3, 1916 in Yadkin County to the late I.C. and Fannie Collins. Mrs. Mendenhall was retired from Salem Uniform and was a faithful member of Island Ford Baptist Church as long as her health permitted. She was a loving homemaker, wife, mother, and grandmother to her family. She enjoyed listening to the Gaither Vocal Band and Country Music. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, David F. Mendenhall in 1994; and was the last surviving member of 23 brothers and sisters including Andrew Collins, John Collins, Farris Collins, Ray Collins and Cora Lee Smith, who also preceded her in death. Surviving are her devoted children, Bobby (Versie) Mendenhall, Phillip (Janet) Mendenhall, Odell (Jenny) Mendenhall, Jimmy (Pat) Mendenhall, all of Boonville; Clara Jane (Raleigh) Autry, Greensboro; David Lynn (Karen) Mendenhal! l, Charlotte; Lou Ray (Wilbur) Poindexter, Siloam; her loving dog, Tippie; 25 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great-grandchildren. Her funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, July 31, at Island Ford Baptist Church by Preacher Conard Hatfield and Rev. Eddy Driver. She will lie in-state 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Boonville Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Wednesday at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville.
