Mr. Welborn was retired from N.L. Fasteners, formerly known as Southern Screw of Statesville with 32½ years of service. He was a member of Hunting Creek Friends Meeting, and his passion was working with cars. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a son, Richard Arlen Welborn; a grandson, Jonathan Andrew Welborn; and by a brother, Manuel Welborn. Surviving are his beloved wife of 54 years, Evalene Blevins Welborn, of the home; a daughter, Anita Gail Welborn Luther Williams, Harmony; a son, Tim Welborn, Harmony; grandchildren, David Wayne Luther, Jamie Danielle Williams, Tim Welborn, Jr., Rusty Shawn Welborn; great-grandchildren, Darrion Wayne Luther, Devin Wayne Luther, Abby Renee Welborn, Emma Marie Welborn, Nicholas Andrew Welborn; two siste! rs, Sheloma (the late Frank) Johnson, Ronda; Lois (Rodney) Clay, Richmond, VA; three brothers, Robert Lee (Teresa) Welborn, Hamptonville; Lenny Welborn, Wentworth, NC, Royce (Elaine) Welborn, Hamptonville, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Mr. Cartwright was retired with 38 years of service from Bassick-Sack Inc. of Winston-Salem. He was an active member of Boonville Baptist Church where he served the church as a Sunday School teacher, Sunday School Superintendant, and helped with Boy Scout Troop. Mr. Cartwright was a veteran of World War II serving with the U.S. Navy. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by two sons, William "Bill" Cartwright and Tim Cartwright; and by two brothers, Hal Cartwright and Lawrence Cartwright. Surviving are his beloved wife of 57 years, Clara Burton Cartwright, of the home; granddaughter, Courtney Cartwright Price; great-grandson, Tanner Price; and daughter-in-law, Phyllis Gregory. Holmes, 80, died Thursday, December 31, 2009 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston Salem. He was born June 20, 1929 in Mt. Airy, NC to the late John William Holmes and Thelma Elizabeth Dobie. George Holmes was educated in the public schools of Mt. Airy and Washington, D.C. He graduated from Appalachian State University, where he played football under Coach Duggins. Later George coached at West Yadkin High School; became President and Co-owner of W.N. Ireland Insurance Agency; and was a North Carolina State Representative for 32 years. While serving as a State Representative, he was a staunch advocate for Appalachian State University, and was "the catalyst" in securing funding for the convocation center which bears his name. He always championed educational and technological causes. George was extremely proud to represent Yadkin County as part of his district. George is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara Ireland Holmes; a ! daughter, Jennifer Holmes Crawley and husband, Sid Crawley of Kansas City, KS; three granddaughters, Amanda Crawley of Kansas City, KS; Jennifer Crawley, Megan Crawley, both of Ann Arbor, MI; a sister, Ronella Holmes Goad, and the late D.C. Goad, of Mt. Airy, NC; and three brothers, William Holmes, and wife, Helen of Cape Coral, FL, Jim Holmes and wife, Sue, of Pleasantville, New York, Dobie Holmes, and wife, Mary Francis of Silver Spring, MD. His Funeral Service and Celebration of Life will be 3 p.m. Sunday, January 3, 2010 at Flat Rock Baptist Church in Hamptonville with Dr. Charles J. Tomlin, officiating. Mr. Groce was retired from Chatham Mfg. and was a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church, where he had served as a Sunday School teacher for several years. Ricky was a member of the Arlington Fire Department and was Past President of Board of Directors for the Fire Department. He also coached basketball for a number of years at Jonesville under Otis Chipman league. He is survived by his wife of 33 years Cheryl Vestal Bledsoe, of the home; a son Ryan David (Ashley) Bledsoe of Jonesville; a daughter Erin McKenzie Bledsoe of the home; a sister Cheryl (Eddie) LeVan, King; a brother Tony (Marsha) Bledsoe, Advance; Several special nieces and nephews. He served in the U.S. Army at the rank of Corporal with General George Patton during the Normandy Invasion. He was retired from Vaughn Basset Furniture Company. In addition to his parents, his was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Mary Gray Holcomb in January 2006; sister, Lucy Reece; brother, Sanford Holcomb. He is survived by his son, Steven F. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born December 25, 1910 in Yadkin County to Cornelius Huston and Mary Jane Reavis Todd. Mrs. May was a member of Bethesda Moravian Church. She taught Sunday School for many years at both New Eden and Bethesda. She served on the Board of Elders and Board of Trustees. She was a faithful member of the Joy Circle that made as many as 1800 chicken pies for several years that supported various church projects. Mrs. May was retired from Western Electric (now Lucent) with over 29 years of service. She also worked for the Firestone Tire and Rubber Company during World War II, and also worked for Mrs.. White's Sewing Shop on Fourth Street. She became known locally for her tireless reweaving that invisibly repaired tears. She dependably drove for 18 years for the Ardmore Transportation Ministry by taking elderly and handicapped for doctor appoint! ments, etc. She was preceded in death by eight brothers and four sisters: Mrs. Cletie Mitchell of High Point, Virgil, Silas, Cyrus, Leslie, Jones, William, and Luther Todd of Yadkinville, Laurence Todd of East Bend, Mrs. Margaret Lakey of Mocksville, Mrs. Minnie Styers and Mrs. Bertha Hoots of Yadkinville; two grandsons, Marven L. Poindexter and Gary Poindexter; and three great-grandsons, John Henry May, Adam Poindexter, and Christopher Sidden. Surviving are her children, Mrs. Marie (Bob) Poindexter of Clemmons, Dr. Henry E. (Bobbie) May, Jr. of Yadkinville, and Mrs. Joan (Ray) Cress of Advance; 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Funeral Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 2 at Bethesda Moravian Church with the Rev. Richard Spach and the Rev. Norwood Green officiating. Burial will follow in Salem Moravian Graveyard. The family will receive friends from! 1-2 p.m. at the Church prior to the Service. Born October 26, 1942 in Yadkin County to Fletcher and Ruby Shore. Mr. Shore graduated from West Yadkin High School in 1961, and retired from RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company after 37 years. He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church and a member of the New Ground Blue Grass Band. He was preceded in death by his father, John Fletcher Shore. Surviving are his wife, Carolyn Henderson Shore of the home; mother, Ruby Pinnix Shore; sons, John Wesley Shore, Jr., Parks Bradley Shore both of Hamptonville; daughter, Sara Nicole Shore of Clemmons; granddaughter, Hope Marie Shore of the home; grandsons, Bradley "Isaac" Shore of the home, Jacob Preston Shore, Samuel Triston Shore both of Roaring River; sister, Lee Ann (Allen) Day; brother-in-law, Jack (Ruth) Henderson; sister-in-law, Ramona (William) Trivette; niece, Natalie (Jason) Matthews; nephews, Grant (Sarah) Day, Mason Day, Phil (Shel! ly) Henderson, Blake Henderson, Grant Henderson.
