Just a general comment, and am sure there are others with more knowledge of Yadkin County than me, but if you're looking for a grave marker of someone who was born in the late 1700s and died in the mid 1800s, you're looking for a needle in a haystack. I've done a lot in Surry County and found maybe 3 or 4 graves with births before 1800 in over 5,000 graves. Good luck! Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem, from an 18 month battle with Lung Cancer. He was born April 7, 1944 in Iredell County to the late Neat Columbus and Ruby Wagoner Seagraves. Mr. Seagraves was retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company with 34 years of service. He was a former member of Branon Friends Meeting and attended Shady Grove Baptist Church. He was a member of Arlington Volunteer Fire Department where he served as Captain of Traffic Patrol for several years. Mr. Seagraves loved music and played bass with the Contemporary Christian Band "Souled Out". In the words from his son, Eric, "If you ever met him your life was better for it. He never met a stranger. The smile that was always on his face and the sound of his laughter warmed your soul. He was a strong man but not afraid to show weakness. He loved all and was loved by all. He was father, son, husband, partner, ! friend, neighbor, brother. He was a great man who will be greatly missed." In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his infant daughter in 1974, and infant son in 1975; sister, Georgia Dickerson, and a brother, Tommy Seagraves. On June 25, 1966 he married his beloved wife of 43 years, Patricia P. "Pat" Seagraves, who survives of the home. Also surviving are his devoted son and daughter-in-law, Eric and Candy Hudspeth Seagraves, Nashville, TN; his new grandson which was born on the day that he died, January 18, 2010, Eli Maverick Seagraves; 2 sisters, Brenda (Harold) Laws, Hamptonville; Frankie S. (the late Allen) Brooks, Yadkinville; twin brother, Gray (Linda) Seagraves, Hamptonville; sister-in-law, Jenny Seagraves, Clemmons; mother-in-law, Hazel Peele, of the home; several nieces and nephews, including 2 special nieces, Renee Moxley, Jill Gilliam; and very special friends, Ronnie and Mona Hudspeth, and Phillip and Helen Mosteller. The family will receiv! e friends from 6-9 PM Friday at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Jones ville. His funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, January 23, 2010 at Shady Grove Baptist Church by Rev. Jimmy Pulley, Rev. Hewey Parrish, Rev. Mickey Leonard, and Rev. Joanne Henley. He will lie in-state 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Branon Friends Meeting Cemetery. Flowers will be accepted or the family is asking for donations to be made to the Simstein Fund. Dr. Lee Simstein was a former surgeon at Forsyth Medical Center and member of the Wake Forest University football team during the 1960s. The fund is dedicated to helping cancer patients who cannot afford personal expenses related to treatments-medications, transportation to appointments, lodging during treatments and more. Since 2003, the Simstein Fund has raised more than $100,000 and has assisted annually about 100 cancer patients receiving treatment at Forsyth Medical Center. He was a wonderful DAD, GRANDFATHER, and GREAT-GRANDFATHER he will be truly missed. Cornelius was born September 10, 1924 to the late Austin Hillary and Lela Hiatt of Winston-Salem. He lived in Forsyth and Yadkin County most of his life. He was a World War II of the US Army. He was the Founder and CEO of Dixie Furniture Industry in Walkertown and House of Hiatt in High Point. He was married to Martha Reid Hiatt who preceded him in death on November 21, 2008. He was also preceded in death by one daughter Gayle Dilworth. He leaves a legacy of love and precious memories to his devoted children, daughter Barbara H. Debuck and husband John of High Point, son Roger Dale Hiatt and wife Dr. Ann Renigar Hiatt of Troutman NC.
