She and her twin sister Myrtle Mozelle Henderson were the first by cesarean section birth delivered in Davis Hospital, Statesville, NC. Mozelle died August 5, 1998. Estelle lived in Washington DC for over 50 years. She moved back home to NC in 1996 and lived with her niece and caretaker Carolyn H. Shore before moving to Resort Assisted Living Facility, Homestead Hills in Winston-Salem. Ms. Henderson was educated and graduated from high school in Yadkin County and business school in Winston-Salem. She was recruited in 1944 by the U.S. Postal Service in Washington DC. This was a highly sought after position and she was honored to be qualified and have letters of recommendation written on her behalf. Her postal career spanned 37.5 years. In addition to her parents, she w! as preceded in death by her sisters, Pearl (ER) Crater, Florence (Leland) Cromer; brothers, George (Effie) Henderson, Charles Monroe Henderson, James Carl Henderson, Lealdon C. Davis, 88, of Yadkinville NC, passed away Wednesday, January 20, 2010 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center after a brief illness. He was born October 17, 1921 in Galax, VA to the late Estel and Rosa Cox Davis, and was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Mr. Davis was a veteran of the US Army and received the Bronze Star for his service in the Pacific Theater during World War II. In his earlier years, he worked with Virginia National Bank, now part of Bank of America, as branch manager in Galax, Wytheville and Hillsville areas in Virginia. Mr. Davis was an active civic leader and community volunteer throughout his life; He held several leadership roles within community organizations, donated nearly 20 gallons of blood to the American Red Cross, and recently received recognition with the 2008 Strong Award as Volunteer of the Year at the Yadkin Family YMCA. He enjoyed gardening, golfing and supporting his favorite college teams. Mr. D! avis was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Yadkinville where he served as deacons and Choir member, and other church activities. He often spent his time as an active member of Yadkin VFW Post 10346 Memorial Honor Guard. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 7 brothers and sisters. He was born on September 28, 1928 to Don and Myrtle Gilliam of Wilkes County. Flake was a long time member of First Baptist Church of Jonesville. He was a veteran of the Korean War and owned and operated a local Elkin grocery store, Gilliam Supply Store, in the early 1960's. Flake loved flying and was co-owner and pilot of a small airplane for several years. He served as a Jonesville Town Commissioner and was a faithful member of the Jonesville Volunteer Fire Department for many years. He was retired from Lance Foods after 23 ½ years of service. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wonderful wife, Evelyn Fender Gilliam; a brother, Robert Gilliam; a sister and brother-in-law, Kathleen and Glenn Pardue; a brother, Rex Gilliam; and a brother-in-law, Gray Casstevens. It never occurred to me that Mack might have been short for maybe Mack-a-roy (or any or surname beginning with "Mac" or "Mc").Do you have ancestors with both Mack and MacAlroy? as surnames? "Bob" Brandon, 82, passed away Friday, January 22, 2010 at Woltz Hospice Home. He was born August 14, 1927 to the late Bob and Helen Brown Brandon. Mr. Brandon was retired from Chatham Manufacturing and was a member of First Baptist Church in Jonesville. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Anna Morrison Brandon. Surviving are his daughters, Grayson (Billy) Goss, Hamptonville, Teresa Brandon (special friend, Ovid Mathis) Boonville; a very special friend to Bob, Linda Bill Wall; grandchildren, Erica (Josh) Wagoner, Brandon Nichols (special friend, Stephanie Brewer), and Shannon Gilliam. The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. Monday, January 25, 2010 at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Jonesville. His Funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday following the visitation in the Gentry Chapel by the Rev. Roger Hensley. Burial will follow at Crestwood Memorial Gardens with Military Right! s by the VFW Post 10346. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Woltz Hospice Home 945 Zephyr Road Dobson, NC 27017.
