He was born April 20, 1932 in Surry County to the late Ed and Annie Hodge Beamer. Mr. Beamer was retired with 30 years of service from the North Carolina Dept. of Transportation in Bridge Maintenance. After his retirement, Ernest enjoyed working with his Honeybees, making various pieces of furniture, and other woodworking jobs. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his two brothers, Fred and Grady Beamer; and by an infant sister. Surviving are his beloved wife of 52 years, Melba Howell Beamer, of the home; three children, James S. Beamer, Elkin, Susan Beamer (Kenneth) Stokes, Yadkinville, Janet Beamer (Teddy) Snow, Elkin; nine grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren, including his special buddy, Austin James "A.J" Sebastian, that gave him so much joy in his last 6 years; sisters, Betty Atkinson, Sylvia (! She was born October 5, 1941 in Yadkin County to Ralph Monroe and Edith Davis Carter. Bonnie was a faithful, life-long member of Mt. Carmel Friends Meeting where she served for many years as the Church Treasurer. She was a loving neighbor to everyone in the community. She worked at R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company as the Lead Unit Clerk until her first child was born. She then worked for the Yadkin County School System, as a Bus Driver and Substitute Teacher, and especially enjoyed the 9 years she worked with the A.D.A.P. Program in Boonville. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker for her family. She enjoyed cooking, providing for each of them, and occasionally taking breaks to out-fish her husband. Bonnie was preceded in death by her father; and by an infant sister, Nora Ja! n Carter. Surviving are her beloved husband of 50 years and 8 months, James L. "Jimmy" Brown, of the home; her three children: Jill (Chuck) Crews, East Bend; Jason (Angie) Brown, Elkin; Jan (Chris) Vogts, East Bend; eight grandchildren: Jacob and Samuel Crews; Isaac Carter, Elijah, AnaJayde and RachelJordyn Brown; Taran and Eily Vogts; her mother, Edith Davis Carter of East Bend; sisters, Abigail (Howard) Williams, East Bend, Wilda (Bobby) Lucas, Garner, Dena (Stanley) Todd, Yadkinville; and all the nieces, nephews, and extended family members, whom she especially loved.     3. The Surry County Genealogical Association has arranged to host a regional Swap Meet in April of this year. This event is open to local genealogy and family history groups as well as individuals with an interest in genealogy of our surrounding region. The event is FREE. Plus, everyone is eligible for a door prize to be given away. This is an opportunity for all of our genealogy groups to share information with each other. Each registered group will have an opportunity to describe their current plans as well as announce what projects they are working on for the future. We also encourage everyone to bring copies of books, pamphlets, or other material they are selling or to share with others as private collections. If needed, a copier will be available and there'll be a small charge for copies. Since space is limited, reserve your table now (at no cost) to ensure you'll have sufficient space to present your information (see registration section below). Lynn Freedle Hutchens 53, of East Bend, passed away on Friday, January 29, 2010 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born in Forsyth County on September 8, 1956 to John Spencer and Marjorie McGee Freedle. Mrs. Hutchens was a member of Forbush Friends Meeting. She was a loving wife, mother, and nanna. She graduated from Parkland High School in 1974. She was a cheerleader for the tiny Greyhounds in Winston-Salem. Mrs. Hutchens was retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company. She was preceded in death by her father, John Spencer Freedle on September 20, 1988. Surviving are her husband, Ralph Hutchens of the home; a daughter, Amy Hutchens of the home; a son, David (Allison) Hutchens of East Bend; her mother, Marjorie McGee Freedle of Winston-Salem; two sisters, Carolyn Benson of Kernersville and Tenia (Mike) Keith of Lexington; a special mother-in-law, Cora Hutchens of East B! end; two grandchildren, Zachary Hutchens and Lindsey Kate Hutchens; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be conducted Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at Forbush Friends Meeting at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Andy Lambert and the Rev. Ray Hamilton officiating. The body will be placed in the Church at 1:30 to lie in-state. Burial will follow in the Church cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday, February 1, 2010 at Huff Funeral Home from 6 until 8 p.m. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to a special sister-in-law, Linda Hutchens and to the rest of the family and friends for their love and support and to Kate B. She was born in Buck Shoal on January 25, 1915, daughter of the late Ulysses and Mary Cheek Shore. Mrs. Mills graduated from Woman's College (UNCG) in 1937 and moved to Concord to teach at Winecoff School. Audree married Harold L. Mills on July 7, 1940 and became a designer for Mills Florist. In time she and Harold became owners of the florist, a business created in 1926 by his mother, Alice Litaker Mills. Audree became manager of the Concord florist and retired after a stroke in 1994 at the age of 79. Audree attended Asbury Methodist Church in Hamptonville and McGill Baptist Church in Concord. She remained close to her family in the Elkin area. The Shore and the Mills families shared in visits and holidays. Audree was very active in the Pilot Club in Kannapolis. She enjoyed the friendships and the work through service that the Pilot members give to their commu! nity. Audree and Harold participated in FTD and Southern Retail Florists Association, attended state, regional, and national meetings. They had no children, but were close to their nieces and nephews. Audree was widowed in February of 2008. She is survived by her sister, Mildred June Grubb of Charlotte; brothers, Claude Shore of Carolina Beach and Colon Shore of Hamptonville, and many Shore nieces and nephews; and sister and brother-in-laws, Sarah Mills Dayvault of Kannapolis, Dot Mills Steen of Marshville, Roy and Ann Mills of Lexington, Alex and Joann Mills of Rome, GA, Nell Mills Mitchell and husband, Marian of St. Petersburg, FL, and many Mills nieces and nephews. The Shore and Mills families would like to express a deep gratitude to Bayada for their excellent care these past 3 years. We wish you could have been with her 4 years earlier. Della Pearson, Cynthia Hammonds, Michelle Batts, Debra Swaringen, Barbara Murray, Annette Rice, office staff, and substitutes watched ! over her and kept her comfortable. The Tucker Hospice House staff was so gracious. Thank you. The family will receive friends from Noon to 2 PM on Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at Wilkinson Funeral Home.
