Listed in the early erecords (1789-92) was also Edward Stephens, John Stephens and a widow Elizabeth Stephens. I think they are family, but cannot locate any other descendants to compare notes. Richard Stephens "ran off" with Wm Petty's daughter Sarah and got married and I think he kicked Richard out. Later the whole bunch went to Kentucky where Richard was himself a Baptist preacher until his death in 1855 in Estill Co., KY., about 87 years old. Is anyone out there aware of any church minutes that have been maintained? I only know of the online membership lists from 1789 and 1792. Is anyone out there related or knowledgable about this Edward, John, and/or Elizabeth Stephens??? According to Richard Stephens in 1850 census, he was born in Maryland, as his daughter stated many years later, although his death record stated he was born in Pennsylvania. My observation is that so often entire neighborhoods of interrelated families migrated, in this case I am betting that some of the early members of the Flat Rock Church were just that. Any ideas? Thanks! Todd Moberly Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. According to the cemetery surveys done by Carl Hoots, the cemetery is on the west side of Hutchens Rd (SR 1597), on a hill south of a creek (probably Forbush Creek). Am sure that's not what you had in mind, but that's what he wrote. Hutchens Rd goes north and south from Mills Rd (south) to Rockett Rd (north). If you type in hutchens road, Yadkin County, NC in Google under the Maps link, it'll give you a good map of Hutchens Rd and the road nearby. But, exactly where the cemetery is on Hutchens Rd is unknown, but someone who knows the exact location might reply.
