The Surry County Genealogical Association has arranged to host a regional Swap Meet on April 17th. The event is open to the public and local genealogy and family history groups with an interest in genealogy of our surrounding region. The event is FREE. Plus, everyone is eligible for a door prize to be given away. This is an opportunity for all of our genealogy groups to share information with each other. Each registered group will have an opportunity to describe their current plans as well as announce what projects they are working on for the future. We also encourage everyone to bring copies of books, pamphlets, or other material they are selling or to share with others as private collections. If needed, a copier will be available and there'll be a small charge for copies. Since space is limited, reserve your table now (at no cost) to ensure you'll have sufficient space to present your information (see registration section below). That would put him born 6 years after the supposed birth date of 16 Mar 1844. I know mistakes were very often made in giving ages on the census, but I am pretty sure that when parents gave an age in months instead of years, they were probably correct. This family has been a hard one to research, beginning with the fact that for years I was told that the wife of Francis Marion SWISHER was Nellie Belle MATHIS who died 1938. Just recently found that her name was Ellen Nellie MATHIS and that Nellie Belle MATHIS was actually born 1935 and was the granddaughter of Francis Marion SWISHER and Ellen Nellie MATHIS. In the 1880 New Castle, Wilkes Co. I found Alven Mathis 34, Margaret Mathis 25 and Ruth Mathis 7. I also found the death certificate and his birth date says 3-16-1846 in Wilkes and died 5-18-1921. Says he is buried at Flat Rock Baptist in Yadkin. Carl Hoots does not have him listed but does have Lucinda Sims Mathis. Bobby was the son of Bill and Mozelle Casstevens of Yadkin County and grew up in the Mitchell Chapel Community. Profoundly handicapped at birth, Bobby moved to Springwood Care after the death of his father. He is survived by his brother, Benjamin "Ben" Casstevens and wife, Fairlin of Traphill; his sister, Reba Casstevens Elliott and husband, Don of King; his nieces, Trista Brown and Rebecca Wood; and nephew, Joel Elliott. Funeral Service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday March 27, 2010 at Gentry Family Chapel by the Rev. Charles Turner. Burial will follow at Mitchell's Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 11 a.m. before the service. The family would like to thank the staff at Springwood Care for watching over Bobby these many years. He was born July 21, 1954 to Hurley Golden Bottoms & Mae Chaffin Corvin. Mr. Bottoms was a member of Peace Haven Baptist Church. Mr. Bottoms was employed by Unifi. He was preceded in death by his father, Hurley Bottoms; and two brothers, Isaac Lee Bottoms, and Mark Samuel Bottoms. Surviving are his fiancÂ,e, Rachel Grigg; his mother, Mae Chaffin Hughes; step father, Jim Hughes; a son, Michael Gregory Bottoms, Winston-Salem; two sisters, Wendy Bottoms (Bill) Morris, Franklinville, Joy Bottoms (Randy) Ogburn, Winston-Salem; a brother, John (Ana) Bottoms, Boonville; and several nieces, nephews, and many special friends.
