She was born September 21, 1919 in Yadkin County to W.E. Wooten and Treva Mills Wooten. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Harold Wooten, infant sister, Lois Wooten, Son-in-law, Fred B. Thomas, and Daughter-in-law, Jean Adams. Survivors include her husband to whom she was nearly married to for 73 years, Mark Adams of the home; a son, Joseph Donald Adams, of Winston-Salem, daughter, Gail Adams Thomas of Gainesville, Ga., grandchildren, Todd Adams of Kannapolis, Haynes Thomas of Gainesville, Ga. and Courtney Thomas of New York City; great grandchildren, Tristen, Tanner and Trent Adams; sisters, Willena Moore, Winston-Salem; Faye (Ralph) Nelson, Kernersville; sister-in-law, Helen Wooten, and several nieces, nephews, and friends. Mrs. Adams was a graduate of Booneville High School. She retired from Davis and Spainhour Dept. Stores and was a homemak! er. Her interests included her church, family, and many friends. She was a wonderful seamstress and leaves a loving legacy of handmade quilts to family and friends. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 30, at Deep Creek Friends Meeting, with Reverend Georgianne Jones officiating. He was born June 21, 1931 to Dolphus Monroe and Mattie Lee Fleming Brendle in Elkin, North Carolina. He graduated from Boonville High School and High Point College (1954) where he majored in history, served as vice president of the Student Body, president of McCulloch Hall, and vice president of Delta Alpha Epsilon. He also attended Wake Forest University, the Institute of Government at University of North Carolina, and participated in the Experimental Farm Production program at NC State University. He married Pattie Lee Gunter in 1953. They were married for 51 years before she passed away in 2005. Mr. Brendle was employed by the NC Employment Security Commission as a labor analyst for Forsyth and Stokes Counties before accepting a position with the Yadkin County Board of Education as a teacher at Fall Creek Elementary School. In 1970 he joined the staff of Surry Community College as Adult Continuing Education Extension Coordinator, serving first in Boonville and then in Mt. Airy until his retirement in 1988. He enjoyed teaching and coaching and seemed to never forget any of his students. He was a member of Boonville Baptist Church and was very active in their Relay for Life team. He was a past president of the Boonville Lions Club and Yadkin County Chapter of North Carolina Association of Educators. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife. He is survived by three children: Kent F. (Pam) Brendle, Jr. of Boonville, Michael R. (Leanne) Brendle of Boonville, and Eva Patricia B. (Joey) Riddle of Winston-Salem. Four grandchildren: Joseph C. Riddle, Jr. of El Paso, Texas; Sharon E. Riddle of Valdosta, GA; Paxton F. Brendle and Greysen M. Brendle of Boonville. He is also survived by a sister Janie Lee B. (Bill) Pinnix of Winston-Salem. The family would like to extend a special thanks to his friends for their support. And thanks to the in home caregivers, the nurses and staff of Mountain Valley Hospice and Hugh Chatham Nursing Center and Hospital. The family will receive friends at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville on Tuesday from 6:00 - 8:00. The funeral will be Wednesday at 2:00 at Boonville Baptist Church conducted by Reverend Ken Boaz and Reverend Jack Gentry. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. She wrote a 300 page book of Phillip's family history; she was a member of the DAR; and she spent a number of years doing genealogy research of families. Edith was a lifetime member of the Yadkin Historical Society and a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Kensington, MD. In addition to her parents and her husband; she was preceded in death by her sister, Kathryn Garner; and brother, Thomas William Garner. Surviving are her brother, J.D. Mr. Shore was a Veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean War. He worked as a farmer and carpenter all of his life. Mr. Shore was a friend to everyone and loved helping anyone in any way possible. The Forsyth County Genealogical Society's regular monthly meeting will be held on Wednesday, July 14, 2010, at 6:30 pm in the auditorium of the Main Forsyth County Library at 660 W. 5th St. in Winston-Salem, NC. Tom Hamilton, Archives Chairperson of the Walkertown Area Historical Society will share insight into the organization and Archive operations entitled "Connecting with the Past". As a new non-profit organization, the WAHS is starting its third year of active programs, growing membership and expansion of its historical archives. Its archives have steadily grown by soliciting documents and pictures from the community. In particular, they have an active program to record interviews of special citizens who have recounted golden nuggets from their past. The meeting is free and open to the public. Wooten listed on prior to 1860 is on Irdell Co. 1850 census living with a Haynes Wooten, who was 25 yrs. old. It had him listed as being 13 in 1860 which confused me about his age. The household above that has a Richard Wooten, 23: Jane Wooten, 22 and Mary Wooten as 12. The head of this household was an Abram Cook, 73. Haynes Wooten has a daughter named Sarah.
