He was born May 2, 1924 in the Richmond Hill Community of Yadkin County to the late Elmer Eldridge and Iva Roxie Pardue Mounce. Crawford had been a member of Mitchells Chapel United Methodist Church where he was one of the founding Boy Scout Leaders of Troop 678. He was a veteran of World War II serving with the US Army in the 289th Infantry Regiment, 75th Division in the European Theater from September 2, 1944 until July 8, 1946. He received a purple heart and the Bronze Star for his Meritorious Achievement. After 56 years, he was awarded his high school diploma this year from the NC Public Schools of North Carolina in Raleigh. Crawford worked with Sears & Roebuck for 14 years and retired from Hanes Dye and Finishing Co. in July 1, 1986. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 œ years, Josephine Casstevens Mounce on January! 6, 2010; sisters, Nina Mounce Steele Sloop, Doris Mounce Bowen; and a brother-in-law, Harold Casstevens. Surviving are his daughter, Robin Mounce Moxley, and husband, David V. Moxley both of Boonville; Grandchildren, Tara Moxley Strickland, and husband, James Marc Strickland, of Boone, NC; David "Davey" Moxley and wife, Ashten Cornelius Moxley of Boonville; great Grandchild, Parker Grace Strickland; sister, Reba Mounce Sigmond and husband, Jim Sigmond; brothers and Sisters-in-law, Frank Bowen, Boonville, Wilma Casstevens, Hartsville, SC, Gayle Casstevens Wray and husband, Alec Wray, Clemmons, Jay Casstevens and wife, Jackie Bishop Casstevens, Boonville; several wonderful nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews; special friends, Dorothy & Arthur Holcomb, Earl & Juanita Nance, Clara Cartwright, A.G. Logan, Jim Grant, and the Davis'. The family will receive friends 6-8 PM Wednesday at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. His funeral service will be 11:00 AM Thur! sday in the Gentry Family Chapel by Rev. Hal Finney and Rev. J.P. Size more. Burial will follow in the Mitchells Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery with Full Military Honors by Yadkin VFW Post 10346. Joe was a very loving husband, father and grand-pa and will be greatly missed by all his friends. He enjoyed racing and hunting and was of the Christian faith. In addition to his parents Joe was preceded in death by one son; Joey Plowman. Surviving are his wife of 28 years; Judy Plowman. Born on March 13, 1931 in Henry County Virginia, she was one of the ten children of Robert Ford and Carrie Ellen Gentry raised in Mt. Airy, NC. Mrs. Wilkins enjoyed working at many types of jobs over the years but was primarily a seamstress for sewing plants around Yadkin County, NC for the majority of that time. She always worked hard to have a comfortable and loving home for her family no matter what type of work she was involved in. One of her greatest joys in life was singing, as evidenced by a long history of her and her family singing together. Having a beautiful tenor voice, she traveled for several years with "The Singing Galatians" to help spread the Gospel through song and testimony. She passed that joy along to her children and family who continue to sing and play in many different venues today to carry on that same tradition. She is survived by her devoted husband of 32 years, Climon Wilkins of Yadkinville, NC; her daughter, Linda Banks and son-in-law, Jimmy Banks of Homosassa, FL and four grandchildren; daughter Jeanie Zane of Homosassa, FL and one grandson; step-son Ronnie Wilkins and fiancee Judy Hunter of Heath Springs, South Carolina and three grandchildren; son Robert 'Buddy' Dobbins and daughter-in-law Sandy Dobbins of Lincolnton, NC and three grandchildren; Dennis Dobbins and daughter-in-law Regina Dobbins of Hamptonville, NC and two grandchildren; daughter Brenda Carbajal of Orange City, FL and four grandchildren, and daughter Angela Walski and son-in-law Dave Walski of Yadkinville, NC and five grandchildren; two sisters Eara Scott and Nellie McHone; as well as many cherished great grandchildren, sisters and other relatives that will miss her greatly. The family will gather from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm Monday evening, August16 at the Gentry Funeral home on Hwy. 601 North, Yadkinville, NC to receive family and friends. She was the youngest daughter of Jim and Ona Cornish Hoots of Yadkin County, sister of Margie Shore, Lottie Seay, Annie Ashburn, Ruby Snow, Maxie Casey, Corbett, J.D. and Sherman Hoots, and half-sister of Charles Hoots, all of whom predeceased her. She is survived by a half-brother and half-sisters, Bob Hoots, Betty Wooten, Clara Nalls, Sarah Wood, Catherine Levan, Janie Wooten, Patty Hoots; numerous nieces and nephews; and a special sister-inlaw, Lura Hoots. Minnie joined the WACs in 1943 and served in the WWII in the occupation of Berlin. Upon her discharge she worked in Washington, DC for a short period of time and then with a friend from her Army career, she left DC on a grand adventure, traveling the United States extensively, going all the way to the West Coast. They worked for short periods of time along the way to pay their expenses, and traveled by bus as they s! aw the country. On their stopover in Irving, TX she met and, in June, 1949, married Hubert Hodge, thus settling and living there for the next several years. They were blessed with one child, Jimmy, whom the Lord called home at 17 years of age after an extended illness. In her loss and grief, Minnie thanked God for the gift of her son and praised Him for having let her know the great love she had known as his mother. She worked for the Clerk of Court in Irving and retired from the Register of Deeds office there. After her husband's death in 1984, she moved back to NC to be near her family, living the last several years at Brookridge Retirement Home in Winston-Salem. Everyone fortunate enough to know her knew she was a woman of tremendous faith, a tender heart, and great love for her family and friends. She was truly a gentle woman and those who knew her were blessed by their acquaintance with her. A service celebrating her life will be held at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Cha! pel, 1:00 p.m. Thursday, August 19, 2010 with Pastors Will Toburen and Steve Hardy of Calvary Baptist Church, where she was a longtime member, officiating. Serving as pallbearers are many of her nephews. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Her earthly remains will be buried near her mother at Flat Rock Baptist Church in Hamptonville, NC following the service. She was known for her loving, caring nature and was beloved by all who knew her. She will be sadly missed. She was born August 10, 1924 in Chatham County, to the late Albert and Mary Jane "Mayme" Byrd Cole. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Claude "C.P." Mackie, Jr.; son, Keith Mackie; sister, Vivian Cole. Surviving are her children, Rex (Olivia) Mackie, Claudia (Mark Chapin) Mackie; several grandchildren, nieces, and other family members. Her funeral service will be held 4:00 p.m. Saturday, August 7, 2010 at Forbush Baptist Church, by Dr. Ray Davis. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Ralph Brown of 1537 Charity Church Road died peacefully on Thursday, July 29, 2010. He had been a resident of Yadkin Nursing Care Center in Yadkinville for the past year. His funeral service will be held at Boonville United Methodist Church on Sunday, August 1, 2010 at 3:00 PM with Rev. Jenny Stewart, Rev. Daniel Brown (grandson) and Rev. Larry Summerour (son-in-law), officiating. He will lie in-state 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Boonville Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Saturday, July 31, 2010 at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. Mr. Brown was born July 22, 1914 to the late Samuel Jones "Buddy" Brown and Martha Jane Settle Brown of the North Oak Ridge Community. He was married to Willena Fleming Brown for 64 years before she died in July of 2000. Their children are Martha Sue (Rev. Larry) Summerour of LaGrange, Ga.; Neal (Mary) Brown, of Plymouth, David Brown of Cedar Mountain; Hugh (Brenda) B! rown, of Boonville. He had 9 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a brother Glenn Brown of Boonville and a sister, Jenny Brown of Elkin. Siblings who preceded him in death were Noah and Fax Brown of Boonville and Mattie Sue Brown of Charlotte. Mr. Brown was a tobacco farmer and later a tank wagon driver for Quality Oil Company. He was also a skilled carpenter and helped two of his sons build their homes. During retirement he enjoyed being in his workshop building things including cedar chests for his grandchildren. Mr. Brown was the caretaker at Boonville Cemetery for several years, was a member of Boonville United Methodist Church where he sang tenor in the church choir for 62 years and was also a fiddle player, playing at one time with the bluegrass band "The Yadkin County Ramblers". Earlier this month he celebrated his 96th birthday by playing harmonica at a Brown Reunion.
