Mrs. Shore was a member of Forbush Friends Meeting but she attended Union Cross Friends Meeting. She enjoyed gardening and quilting and always provided her family and friends with fresh vegetables. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, John Benjamin "J.B." Shore on October 18, 2002. Surviving are a daughter, Nelda Fox and her husband, Larry, Statesville; a son, Leon Shore and his wife, Gayle, Yadkinville; two grandsons, Brad Shore and Kevin Fox; a brother, Bobby J. "Bob" Matthews and his wife, Vernell; sister & brothers-in-law, Junior & Josie Mathis and Aline Shore; and several nieces and nephews. Born in 1917 in Boonville, NC to Byrd Winfield and Ida Holder Snow, she graduated from Boonville High School and Business College of Winston-Salem. In 1937, Mrs. Haynes married Clarence Leo Haynes. (Deceased 1987) They lived most of their lives on Cody Trail near Dobson. After her love for family, her love for her church family was most important. Mrs. Haynes was a long-time and devoted member of Fairview Baptist Church. In addition to singing in the choir for over 50 years and teaching adult Sunday School classes, she served on various church committees and held leadership roles in the Women's Missionary Union. Someone once said that "she had prepared hundreds of cobblers for all the homecomings, socials and funerals at Fairview Baptist Church". Mrs. Haynes' home was always filled with love and memories of many family meals together. Until 2005, her home was the gath! ering place for holidays and special occasions. Mrs. Haynes is survived by a large family: Daughters, Yvonne Hodges and son-in-law, Vernon, of Elkin, NC, Charlene Price and son-in-law, Charlie, of Asheville, NC, and son, Tommy Haynes and daughter-in-law, Karen, of State Road, NC; grandchildren, Jane Hodges Wyatt of Elkin, NC, Janice Hodges Lewis of Huntersville, NC, Jason Hodges of Millersville, MD, Charla Price Muller of Charlotte, NC, Charles Price, III of Charlotte, NC, Meredith Haynes McGurn of Raleigh, NC and Amanda Haynes McGovern of Pittsboro, NC; twelve great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. Mrs. Haynes' surviving brothers are A.D. Snow of Winston-Salem, NC and A.C. Snow of Raleigh, NC. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, four sisters and nine brothers. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. at Fairview Baptist Church, Fairview, NC on Monday, September 13, 2010. Dr. Andy Atkins will officiate the services. Burial will follow in the ch! urch cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to service. There wil l be no formal services held at the funeral home. Mr. Grady Frank Driver, 69, of Service Road, passed away Thursday, September 09, 2010 at Yadkin Valley Community Hospital. He was born January 29, 1941 in Yadkin County to the late John Frank and Nellie C. Driver. Mr. Driver was retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company and was a lifetime member of Harmony Grove Friends Meeting. He was a devoted husband, father, brother and especially loved and adored each of his grandchildren. Mr. Driver enjoyed working with wood, building bird houses, and going fishing with his family and friends. Lots of great memories were made with Grady while fishing at! Cape Hatteras and Hatteras Inlet. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his son, Royce Driver; brothers, Carl Gray Driver, Marler Ray Driver; sister-in-law, Peggy Driver; and niece, Dora Lou "Dodi" Driver. He was a loving, devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather to his family. Mr. Boles enjoyed going hunting or fishing with his family and friends. He was a member of Branon Friends Meeting, attended Oak Grove Baptist Church as long as his health permitted, and was a member of Woodmen of the World. Mr. Boles served as a veteran of World War II in the U.S. Army. He was a paratrooper and received a purple heart for his service and injuries sustained in Germany. He was born February 6, 1935, in East Bend to the late Paul Wesley and Sally Durham Patterson. After working for 33 years with Swisher International serving as Regional Manager, he retired in 1997. During his years of work, he also served as a Sunday School teacher for Vienna Baptist Church and Shallowford Baptist Church. Johnnie Patterson was an avid golfer and believed that a bad day on the golf course was better than a good day at work. He thoroughly enjoyed his days playing golf as well as the many good friends he made on the course. In addition to golf, he enjoyed baseball. After playing baseball in the fields near his home, he played high school baseball for East Bend, and was a fan of the Braves and the Cardinals John was also a family man. He believed that children should be in close contact with their parents and with each other. He was also a firm believer in prayer and shared wi! th others how God had generously blessed his life. John is survived by his wife, Shirley Johnson Martin Patterson; three children, Sherry (Steve) Fix East Bend, NC, Johnnie Avalon (Donna) Patterson, Jr. of Fort Mill, SC, Tonya (Andy) Williams of Roanoke, TX; three step-children, Vickie Martin (Dick Evans) of Palo Alto, CA, Lang (Cherie) Martin of Pawley's Island, SC, Lisa (Ronnie) Pendry of Boonville, NC; seven grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, and two great- grandchildren. John is also survived by his brother, Wayne "Shorty" (Peggy) Patterson, and sister, Yvonne (Don) Brooks and dear friends, Vernon and Jackie Hoots. On your Samuel Davis, was he married to Nancy Joyner and not Nancy Kelly? I don't find a marriage record for them in Yadkin or Surry County. He is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years, Dorothy Adams Holcomb of the home; and his four children: Margaret (Charles) Taylor of Winston-Salem, Jean (Dennis) Kelly of Atlanta, GA, Dale (Angie) Holcomb of Yadkinville, and Lisa (Mark) Counsell of Atlanta, GA. Arthur was also the proud grandfather of eight grandchildren: Jennifer (Brent) Jacques of Apex, Suzanne (Damond) Van Weerdhuizen of Winston-Salem, Brad Shepherd of Atlanta, Jordan and Garrett Holcomb of Yadkinville, and Sidney, Roley, and Grace Counsell of Atlanta; four great-grandchildren, Mason and Madison Van Weerdhuizen of Winston-Salem, and Grant and Leighton Jacques of Apex. Mr. Holcomb is also survived by one sister, Laura Lee Shore; and nephew, Jimmy Shore, both of Yadk! inville; and niece, Debbie McAuley of East Bend, as well as a lot of close dear friends that he shared many happy memories with over the years. Mr. Holcomb was a veteran of World War II and was awarded the Bronze Star and the French Legion of Honor Medal. He was a member of the E291st Company in the 75th Infantry Division. He was a member of Yadkin VFW Post 10346, a charter member of Yadkinville Fire Department where he served in several capacities for over 50 years including the honor of being a former Yadkinville Fire Chief, and was a co-owner and President of Holcomb Creosote Company in Yadkinville where he had worked for over 50 years. He also proudly received his long awaited North Carolina High School Diploma in May of this year. Arthur attended the Yadkinville Pentecostal Holiness Church until his illness progressed and prevented his attendance. The family would like to express their gratitude, appreciation and thanks to the entire staff of Mountain Valley Hospice ! and to his special care giver, Debra Zoutes for all their support and loving and compassionate car provided not only to Dad, but to Mother and our family as well. She worked for several years with Chatham Manufacturing, Candle Corporation of America, and attended Longtown Pentecostal Holiness Church. She was a compassionate and charitable example for the family and community by generously giving of her time, words, thoughts, or deeds. A recent example was when she volunteered in helping with the TV Series "Extreme Home Makeover" in Lexington. Mama loved her flowers, and their beautiful blooms represent how she lived her life in trying to help others to grow and blossom into the tender, warm, understanding friend she was to so many in her life. She ! was a loving, devoted mother, grandmother, and excellent cook for her family. He was born May 22, 1918 in Surry County to the late William Abner (Tood) and Levora (Vo) Williamson Snow. Cleve was a loyal and faithful member of Deep Creek Baptist Church. He enjoyed the outdoors and spent much of his time outside: farming, hunting and fishing. Pa enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially the great-grandchildren.
