She was born March 1, 1918 in Ronda, NC to the late Mitch and Julia A. Benge Anderson. Mrs. Wiles was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother to her family. She was considered the "Worlds Greatest Grandma Baby-sitter", and loved spending her time either sewing or working in her garden. She was a faithful member of Swaims Baptist Church for over 60 years. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Egbert Wiles; a son, Benny G. Wiles; granddaughter, Derie C. Reece; sister, Mae Roberson; brothers, Ralph Anderson, John Anderson, Williams Anderson, and a grandson, Benny G. Wiles, Jr. Surviving are her daughter, Julia W. (Edward) Golden ; a son, Fred Wiles; special granddaughter-in-law, Shonnie Thompson; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild. The family will receive friends from 6-8! PM Wednesday at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Jonesville. Her funeral service will be 2:00 PM Thursday in the Gentry Family Chapel by Rev. Randy Johnson. Mrs. Gentry was a loving mother, grandmother, and homemaker for her family. She enjoyed a variety of handcrafts including quilting, cross-stitching, and sewing. Mr. Holcomb was retired from Chatham Manufacturing after 40 years of service and served in the Merchant Marines during World War II. He was preceded in death by his parents. Mr. Essic was born Aug. 16, 1919, in Yadkin County to the late John Frank and Mary Lois McMath Essic. He was a charter member of Highland Presbyterian Church in Winston-Salem and in later years a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Mocksville. Mr. Essic attended public school in Courtney, and graduated in 1936. He attended Mars Hill College and graduated magna cum laude from Appalachian State Teachers' College. Mr. Essic was a pillar of the Farmington Community and was instrumental in many local projects. He served as a master of the Pino Grange for a number of years. Mr. Essic was the first president of the Farmington Volunteer Fire Department and worked to obtain telephone service for the Farmington community. He helped organize the Farmington Medical Center and served on the board of trustees of the ! Davie County hospital. One of his proudest accomplishments was the James E. and Lelia N. Essic Scholarship Fund that has awarded college scholarships to nearly one hundred students. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Wilma Wittman of Orange, Ca. Mr. Essic and his wife, Lelia, would have been married sixty-eight years on Dec. 13. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons and two daughters, James Edward Essic Jr. (Chip) and his wife, Ruth, David Neal Essic Sr. and his wife, Brenda, Mary Ellen Candillo and her husband, John and Lelia Anne Barnes and her husband, Brooks; seven grandchildren, Jefferson Essic and his wife, Karen, Rebecca Phillips and her husband, Lawson, David Essic Jr. and his wife, Tammy, Forrest Essic and his wife, Heather, Joseph Candillo and his wife, Kate and Edward and Elizabeth Barnes; five great-grandchildren, Sadie and Thomas Essic, Elliott and Eliza Essic and Wyatt Phillips and a brother, Francis Essic of Gastonia. John was born in Winston-Salem, NC August 6, 1927, son of Dr. John Claude Casstevens and Julia Esther Owens Casstevens. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Lois Lyndon Casstevens. Surviving are a sister, Jane Marilyn Casstevens McNair and husband, Grover Cleveland McNair Jr.; a nephew, Grover Cleveland McNair III; two nieces, Julia Owen McNair McBride and Mary Lyndon McNair Eagle; seven great-nieces and nephews and two great-great-nieces. John grew up in Clemmons NC. At the age of 15, John graduated high school and went to college with the goal of graduating in three years. His goal was to join the military service in order to serve his country in WWII. A swimming accident prevented him from meeting this goal. He attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in History. He was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. John's caree! r spanned 40 years as a financial analyst in New York City. He especially enjoyed reading and listening to classical music. After retiring, John traveled extensively. He spent a great deal of time in Paris as well as other parts of the world. His later years were spent between San Francisco and Sarasota. As his health began to fail, John returned to Winston-Salem, where he resided at the Nissen Building. In 2008, he moved to the Fitzgerald Health Center at Arbor Acres for the remaining years of his life. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff at Arbor Acres for their loving care and professional support given to John and his family. He died before 1860 in Iredell County. He married Jane Walker before 1810 and she died before 1860 in Iredell County. He had 14 children. Thomas Melmuth was the 12th child in the family. She was born March 6, 1922 in Yadkin County to John Henry and Nora Bovender Shore. Mrs. Dahmer was a member of Union Grove Baptist Church. She was very active with the Salvation Army where she enjoyed doing ceramics until her health declined. She loved collecting elephants and loved to work with plants. She also enjoyed numerous special friendships. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Donald Dahmer; daughter-in-law, Dale Dahmer; and several brothers and sisters. Surviving are her children, Bob Dahmer and wife, Tevera of Winston-Salem, John Dahmer and wife, Sylvia of Winston-Salem, Richard Dahmer and wife, Windi of Florida, Wayne Dahmer and wife, Ann of Florida, Donald Dahmer of Winston-Salem, Gail Weathers and husband Graham, of Washington State, Clyde Dahmer and wife, Carolyn of Rural Hall, Eddie Raines and wife, Marsha of Nashville, Nancy Long of High Point, ! Ray Gann and wife, Sandi of Reidsville, Faye Webster and husband, Keith of Mayodan; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; and one brother, Billy Shore of Winston-Salem. Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, December 3 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with the Rev. Gary Byrum officiating. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Stinson was born June 18, 1921 in Surry County to Marvin and Verlie Payne Cockerham. She was a member of Charity Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday School Teacher for many years. She was also a director for WMU; sang in the choir; and was a member of the Boonville Homemakers. Mrs. Stinson was a volunteer for the American Red Cross; served as Activity Director in local nursing homes; and volunteered at YVEDDI with the under-privileged children. She was an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) where she fulfilled several office positions in the organization. Mrs. Stinson had a great love for sports in which she shared in her sons' achievements throughout their high school years. Her finest achievement was in bowling, where she won many awards, in Winston-Salem and Jonesville. Mrs. Stinson had a great love fo! r all her family and friends. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Stinson was preceded in death by her husband, Enos Graham Stinson; two sons, Chris Stinson and William (Bill) Stinson; and two brothers, Calvin Cockerham and Bill Cockerham.
