After many years of searching by my relatives before me, and a few years on my own, I still seek clues as to where my line of Wilsons came from. So it is in this continuing effort that I have subscribed to this list. I know little about the Wilson County Area, and am curious as to how it came to be so named, etc. My line extends back to the mid 1700's here in what was then Old Rowan (now Davidson County) to the first land grant to Richard Wilson recorded in 1783. I would like to find some thread that links my line back to Staunton Virginia area. I have no solid evidence to make this connection, except for the works of some researchers who interviewed family members before my time, noting that the word of mouth History claimed Staunton as the place that the Wilsons occupied prior to coming to this location in NC.
