In the History of Stantonsburg are listed several maps: Collet Map--1770 shows only one road thru this area from Tarboro to points south and over to Smithfield and Waynesboro (Goldsboro) Colton Map--1861 Shows one road to Goldsboro from Tarboro with a branch to Snow Hill US.Coast Survey Map...1865 Shows a road from Tarboro to Saratoga to Stantonsburg to Goldsboro with a branch to Snow Hill and Kinston and a road from Joyner's Depot (Elm City) to Stantonsburg to Kinston and roughly follows present day Hwy 222. Kerr - Cain Map 1882 Post Route Map 1896 I know I have seen at least 3 of these maps in the NC Archives and I suspect the others are there also. I do have a copy of the Gilmer Map done during the War Between the States but the western most boundary on that map seem to follow the railroad from Goldsboro to Rocky Mount.. Carol .. Carol P.
