Can someone with experience in researching in Wilson County....the library and the Courthouse, tell us about your experiences....how much were you charged for copies....did the courthouse workers help you? etc. I have used the Library and it has a fine genealogy room and it boasts a wonderful vertical file. I know the members of the WCGS have spent many hours helping to make the genealogy room a research-friendly environment. I have also used the birth and death records in the courthouse and have done a bit with the land records. I can't recall charges for zerox copies. I also visited the Map room and found the lady there very helpful. I am sure there are those of you on this list who can really be helpful in telling us all about the research facilities. I am working on a lot of names in Wilson Co., most of which have their origin in Edgecombe in the part that became Wilson. In particular, I am working on the Baileys who spilled over from Greene Co. My grandfather, William Parrot Bailey, died in Saratoga in the 1902 typhoid epidemic. He was born in Greene Co., the son of Dove (David) M. Bailey and Rachel Mercer Bailey. Also would like additional information on my step-grandfather's family. He was Isaac Lee Rogers, the son of John Rogers and Elizabeth Walston. He was born near Saratoga in the late 1880's and lived in Saratoga all of his adult life. Also descendants of John Webb, who was in Edgecombe in the part that was taken into Wilson. OK, here goes: I have no dates for these. I got this from my grandmother. Robert Batten married Martha ? Children: Harris, Bunn, Della and Piddie. (not sure of spelling of last one. Both of the girls married Creech men). Harris Batten married Margaret Hatcher Children: Amos, Charlie, Steven, and Joe (I don't know if there are any more and what their names would be. Amos Batten married Polly Watson Children: Sereenie, Thayer, Ada, Ida, Edwin, Moses, Jessey, Eula (my grandmother and my connection to the Roses), Avery, Ethel, and Chester. And they thought Viagra was a new thing NOT......LOL The first two children listed died in infancy. Come from a huge line of Battens. According to family memory, we are no relation to the Battens that were in Micro but I believe we were. One of those Hatfields and McCoys issues that runs rampant in every branch of my tree (which I have come to the conclusion it's not a tree at all but more like a Wysteria Vine). Thanks Crystal

Shelby and the rest of list, I am in Yorktown VA and I'm about 4 to 5 hrs. away from Wilson Co. I'm not very familiar with that area of NC. My question is was Johnston at one time part of Nash? What were the boundaries in that area and what other counties should I be trying. I did browse through Nash Co. queeries along with Hyde Co. I have found a lot of Roses but didn't connect anything because I assumed they were too far away to be connected. I was told by a cousin that Johnston Co. had a drawer with 3 large files on the Roses but I'll be darned if anything has turned up. Does anyone have access to Census data? That would help me also.
