    2. Hi Bev, That is my only connection to Noah Pittman. He married my grandmother's sister Ida. The only children I know is A.J., Mazel and Velma. Then I only know the names. I may have met them at the Reunion a couple of times but to be honest, it was so large and so many people, couldn't tell you which ones they were. Sorry I couldn't provide you with more information. 3. Ray, This was a WONDERFUL post about the history of the little communities which make up Wilson County. I can't thank you enough!! I just checked the 97 Phone book and there are 5 pages of Churches listed in the Yellow pages. I can't possibly do this ... Perhaps if someone has a copy of the Wilson Heritage (which I always wanted and could never find!!), there may be listings of the older churches in Wilson County. I believe that would be more beneficial to our list than a long list of the present-day ones....I could be wrong.... Carol .. Carol P. Martoccia .. 903 East Fifth Street .. Greenville, NC 27858 .. 3. Shelby, Hope some of this will be useful. The information was collected 20 years ago, and I hope it was transcribed correctly, so use it as a reference, not as a detail. The books are probably available in any large genealogical research library (if not, they should be). The following information is collected from several NC Business Directories found in the State Archives in Raleigh, NC. It included information on property values, lists businesses and owners, lists population, farming, and trade statistics, numbers of schools, etc. In many ways, it is an expanded Agricultural Schedule for many areas, with details that are not found in the Federal Census records. These references can help you locate a specific individual within the county by occupation, township, value of property, etc. The Business Directories cover NC businesses and industry for 1869, 1877, 1890, 1896, and 1912 by county. A very worthwhile reference for any researcher in NC... Wilson County: 1860: Population 9720, Post Offices: Black Creek, Joyners Depot, Wilson, Stantonsburg 1870: Population 12258, consisting of 7185 white and 5073 colored persons, Townships in 1872: Wilson, Black Creek, Crossroads, Spring Hill, Old Field, Taylors, Joyners, Gardners, Saratoga, Stantonsburg 1890: Population 18644, consisting of 10884 white and 7760 colored persons. Towns and Post Offices: Barnes Store, 30 Black Creek, 375 Boyett, 25 Lucama, 25 Moyton, 20 Saratoga, 175 Stantonsburg, 100 Taylor, 25 Toisnot, 525 Wilson, 3125 1896 Towns and Post Offices: Barnes Store, 50 Black Creek, 500 Boyett, 75 Cliftonville, - Connor, 25 Elm City, 800 Filmore, - Lamm, - Lucama, 200 Meeksville, - Moyton, 50 Saratoga, 300 Stantonsburg, 150 Talbot, 25 Taylor, 50 Wilbanks, 100 Wilson, 5000 There is lots more, including dates of incorporation, population by race, valuation of personal and real property, listing of manpower by occupation, detailed records of crops produced, as well as livestock. Also, the number of mills, mines, ministers, schools, libraries, factories, farmers, farms, physicians, post offices, lawyers, merchants, hotels, churches, vineyards, city and town officers, and more.....
