Some researchers say that James was the son of Valentine Brown. Others say he was the son of William Brown Jr. and had a brother Elisha Brown, with whom he emigrated to Indiana about 1830. Can anyone help me shed light on which Brown is James' father? I do not have any North Carolina resources. Thank you.
