Barbara, I was looking at the school census and we are also spelt Michkel. It could be Michael but we also have the Mitchel's living near us. William is the only Mikel in my family and he married one of my Riddles. The rest of my Riddles married Hayes, Lewis, Tedder, Parker, Benge ( early land grants connect to Mitchel ) Eastridge, Moore and others. We were also very close with Jeremiah Gilreath. Jeremiah has also been transcribed as Gilbert.Any of these names in your family? Just curious what section ( district )of Wilkes were your Michael's in in Wilkes.
