FYI, William CLARK, b abt 1740 and Leah JOHNSON b abt 1742 lived in early Wilkes Co NC. William is listed on a deed for the last time in 1800 Wilkes Co NC. William and JosephYork appear in Grainger Co when they are included as petitioners to the Tn Gen Assy 1 Dec 1801 disputing making three counties instead of two from Cocke Co line at French Broad and Nola Chucky Rivers to the foot of the Cumberland mountains or the Indian boundry. Petition signers were Henry CLARK, Joseph YORK, Jr. Semore YORK, William YORK, Joseph YORK Sr and William CLARK. Recommendation that part of Grainger Co next to Jefferson Co as far as the top of Clinch Mountain be made a Superior Court District, signers were: William YORK, Joseph YORK, Jr., Tylor YORK, Henry CKARK and Jeremiah YORK. William CLARK is on tax rolls of Madison Co KY on 11 Aug 1803. Clay Co KY is formed from Madison Co in 1807 and William CLARK and his sons are listed on the first tax roll. We want to find William's ancestry, however, we also want to find Leah's JOHNSON family and believe that the JOHNSON'S of Wilkes Co NC are her family. In 1800 Census there are: Henry JOHNSON 26-44 Rachel JOHNSON 45+ William JOHNSON 45+ Samuel JOHNSON 26-44 Jesse JOHNSON 26-44 George JOHNSON 45+ Walker JOHNSON 16-25 These JOHNSON's are all found living in close proximity. Does anyone here know the relationships of those listed? Any help will be appreciated. Thank you. Phyllis, I checked my line and the only Rachel I found in my line that might match your 1800 census is Rachel Walker Johnson(daughter of George and winifred Walker of Westmoreland Co.,Va).Rachel md Jeffery Johnson III(1749 - 1789).Their children were: William(1751);Samuel(1757),Jeffery IV;Thomas,George. There were two other sons and two other daughters but have no names listed for them,so don't know if Leah could have been one of their daughters and could not find Henry,Jesse or Walker listed. Also, another bit of info: Cpt. Samuel Johnson and his wife,Mary Haman are buried in Trap Hill Cemetery in Trap Hill,NC William Perry Johnson, his wife,Jane Lusk and their daughter Beatrice are buried in Big Meadows Cemetery Hope this might be of some help to oyu.
