Surely, I'm thinking, there's someone who's already done some good research on the early Higgins in Wilkes? Seems like I did look in the Wilkes Library some many months back and found little. I see some reference to a book "Log Cabin Families of Stone Mountain, NC" that Nan Wrenn sources in a post back in 2001--where might I find a copy of this book? According to family tradition I descend from T. William Higgins (born about 1808) and wife Mary (unknown) and then their son Isaac born 9-26-1845 married to Amanda Caroline "Callie" Dancy born 8-20-1848 d/o Isham and Rachel Church Dancy (I've gotten a LOT on my Dancy connections) and then I descend through Isaac and Amanda's son William born 6-26-1866 who married Emma "Jock" Church born 1-5-1867 d/o Henry Harrison and Mary Elizabeth McGlamery Church (and I've gotten a lot on the Churches too). And then William and Emma Church Higgins son Calvin Clayton Higgins--he was my great grandfather. I'm pretty sure about this line up to Isaac and Amanda Caroline Dancy Higgins--my grandmother Mindy Higgins Lovette talked about her great grandmother Amanda Caroline. I'd really like more on Isaac Higgins born 9-26-1845. He's in the cemetery survey by George and Joyce McNeil and George notes that his parents are "probably William and Mary". Who were his brothers and sisters? I see a William and Mary Higgins in the 1850 Wilkes census with children: Henry, 22 William, 19, Hyrum, 16, Willis, 14, Nelson, 12, Mary, 10, Isac, 6, John, 4, But in 1860 I see no William and Mary of the right or near right ages. In 1860--I see an Isaac living with Henry and Hiiley Higgins of about the right age. Could be William and Mary died and the children were scattered among relatives? In 1850 there appears to be three major Higgins families??? Argales m to Betsy, George m to Fanny and William m to Mary. Were Argales, George and William related? Brothers? Sorry this is so long! I've so many questions! I just feel sure there's somebody in Wilkes who already knows much about the Higgins and just thought this board would be my best avenue of finding Higgins researchers.
