    2. The parents of Thomas (possibly Thos T) Johnson is another of my unsolved mysteries.  He was born in NC about 1839 and seems to have died around 1900 in Watauga Co.  There is a Wilkes marriage license for a Thomas T Johnson &  Elizabeth Cox dated 17 Aug 1865.  Bondsman was Alexander Lipford.  My grandfather always referred to his grandma Cox as "Betty" and told my mother that he went to visit his grandma Cox in Wilkes.  They are known to have lived in Watauga, Stony Fork from 1880 on.  In 1870 they were in the Pine Swamp area of Ashe Co.  In 1890 when they made a deed to their son, Andrew H, for land in Watauga they were listed as Thos & Martha E Johnson. Thanks for trying to assist.  Linda in NC -----Original Message----- From: Bobbie <bjjlpn@yahoo.com> To: ncwilkes@rootsweb.com Sent: Mon, 25 Jun 2007 4:58 pm Subject: Re: [NCWILKES] Cox-Adkins-Johnson Linda, Do you by any chance know who Thomas Johnson's arents were or when he was born? 3. Linda, I'm trying to trace the Cox's of Wilkes and later Caldwell Co. NC. Matthew Cox was one of the first of the Cox family to move into Wilkes Co., he died there in 1804. He had several sons; Carter, Mastin, Reuben, Matthew Jr. and Aris. Mastin and Reuben moved to GA., the others I'm not sure of but some of them are listed on rootsweb world connect site. You might try there for this family connection. Some how my Cox's who were tied to this family landed in Greenville Co. SC. I'm still trying to find the relative that will tie my John Cox b. 1780-90 to old Matthew.
