My g-g-g-g grandfather was Adam Jacob Staley. According to local stories, he died by drowning in the Yadkin/Reddies River in May 1812. I have not been able to find a death record or anything to corroborate this. Is there still a newspaper on microfiche maybe that may have announced his death. His wife, Eve, divorced him 1803 (one of the few divorces ever granted) and took all the property that he lived on with her. I don't know if he continued to live in Wilkes after the divorce but he is said to have remarried but possibly not in Wilkes. I am fairly certain of his death information because of the various people I received the exact same info from. Is there any way to validate this info???? What records are still left that would help?
