Hello Wilkes County PRUITTs: After 20+ years of digging -- I finally was able to put the pieces together for my parental ancestors. I don't know if it is accurate; but I did locate an older relative (sister of Albert PRUITT) for the first time this weekend who remembered details back to Harden (Hardin?) Pruitt and his spouse Margaret OSBORNE. My Pruitt parental ancestor lineage: Me...then; father Albert Lee PRUITT, b: 1933 d: 1996 of Broadford, Smyth County, VA > William Cameron PRUITT, b: Abt 1882 d: 1937 of Wilkes County, NC (sp: Virgie Mae ORANGE) > Harden (or Hardin?) PRUITT, b: Abt 1849 of Wilkes County, NC (sp: Margaret OSBORNE) > Jeremiah PRUITT b: Abt 1821 of Wilkes County, NC (sp: Rebecca) > Joel PRUITT Sr, b: Abt 1786 of Wilkes County, NC (sp: Polly) > Joseph PRUITT Jr, b: Abt: 1766 of Wilkes County, NC (sp: Unknown) > Joseph PRUITT Sr of Wilkes County, NC (sp: Rachel) > Uriah PRUITT of Wilkes County, NC (sp: Elizabeth) > Henry PREWITT Sr (sp: Rebecca DABBS or DOBBS > Thomas PREWITT, b: Abt 1616 of Salisbury, Whiltshire, England (sp: Unknown). 1880 US Federal Census records indicate "Harden" spelling and spouse Margaret and other family information lines-up with known children names. I worked backward through records from that point. Harden Pruitt resided in Rich Valley, Smyth County, VA at the time of this census and present day distant relatives are located in Rich Valley, Smyth County ,VA. Family lore is that Native American heritage is part of my PRUITT blood line, possibly Cherokee? Can anyone clarify this information? Can any PRUITT in Wilkes County, North Carolina help me glue the other pieces together about my parental ancestors? Are their any current PRUITT relatives of this line still in Wilkes County, NC?
