I am in the process of attempting to complete my wife's DAR application. Her Patriot was a David Laws who was born 1755 in Halifax County, Va, moved to Wilkesboro and married a Martha Mitchel on 22 Feb 1779,had a son, John Laws who was born in Wilkesboro in 1780, and who married a Sally (Sarah) Teague on 1 Nov 1802, and Sarah and John had a daughter, Penelope Nellie Laws, born in Wilkesboro on 25 Sep 1823. It is believed that John Laws died on 9 March 1835. It is also believed that after John died, his wife and family moved to Missouri sometime sometime between that date and 1840. John also had a brother, James, who married hisl (James')cousin, Rosanna (sp?). it is also believed that James and Rosanna and their children moved to St Francois or St. Genevieve County sometimebetween 1835 and 1840. It is also believed that John's widow, Sarah and their children, including Penelope Nellie also moved toSt. Francois orSt. Genevieve County, Missouri at or about the same time as James and Rosanna. On a recent visit to North Wilkesboro I found out that the LAWS family had a cemetery in t he Brushy mountain or Walnut Grove Area on Price Road. Perhaps this is where John Laws was buried (he died 9 March 1835). It also appears that the Laws families first lived in the Pares Knobb community What I need to prove is the following: where John Laws is buried in North Carolina; that Penelope Nellie was the daughter of John Laws and his wife, Sarah. If anyone can help me with the above proof, they may contact me, John Pattillo, at johnpatti@cfl.rr.com or write to me at 146 Virginia Drive, Winter Park, Florida 32789 or call me at (407)644-2816
