My records show he died on March 9, 1835 but did not tell me where. If he and his brother, James and his widow, Sarah moved to Missouri in mid to late 1830's, that squares with John's date of death. The 1840 Federal Census for Saint Francois, Mo. shows a Sarah Laws as a "head of household" which squares with John dying before the 1840 census. The 1840 Mo. census also shows a James Laws as a head of household. both show they would have had a daughter the age of Penelope Nellie Laws, John and Sarah's daughter who was born in 1823 You state that David and Martha (Mitchell) had sons, James andJohn listed "out of house" on the 1810 Wilkes Census.d Do you mean by this that there are separate listings for James and John both as Heads of Household? I have printed out the 1810 census for all three. What is meant by John Laws (Miller)? As you may recall from my wife's original posting we are trying to get her DAR application approved. Presently we have just two things we need to prove, ie. John's death and John had a daughter named Penelope Nellie Laws. As noted above, both the Mo. census of James and Sarah show each houshold could have a daughter Penelope's age in 1840, ie.15 to 20 yrs of age. The DAR genalogist wants proof that Sarah would be t he one who daughter was Penelope or prove that the daughter of that age could not be the daughter listed under James Head of Household. In summary, I need the following evidence: 1. proof of death of John 2. Penelope was the daughter of John 3. Penelope was the daughter shown under Sarah in the 1840 Saint Francois Cty. Mo. census I don't have any info on your line coming from John's daughter, Mary but if I stumble on any, I will let you know Regards John Pattillo
