Like I posted before. If your DNA should turn up Indian, it will not prove what tribe you ancestor came from only that you have an Indian ancestor. Many people who have been known to have certain surnames to be affiliated with Indians or African, their DNA usually will not match a true surname being that the free or enslaves Indians, free or enslaved Africans did not have surnames before the Euopeans. You might have a lot of people connected to the same surname in your own families but DNA may all come up different. This is what has happened with the Sizemore and Collins families of Wilkes( I am giving this as an example ) Many bastardy bonds in your families is another sign of possible Indian ancestry and also could be a reason for your DNA not matching your known ancestors surname. In many Indian tribes the baby follows the mother ( Belonging to mother's clan ) not the father so a child would be given the mothers surname not father's surname. If your ancestor's DNA matches their surname ( with other people's DNA being tested in the same line and all match )and turns up with European DNA then that direct line would not be Indian. The Y-DNA follows father to Father to Father. Mt-DNA, mother to mother to mother. Direct line Example: lets say your Father's mother was stated to be Indian. You would need to find someone in her direct female unboken line to MT-DNA test. Your father would cary his mother's MT-DNA but he will not pass that on to you. Males do not pass donwn MT-DNA. You then from your father and mother, you would carry your mother's MT-DNA.
