G'day, I also feel he is venting. Unfortunately there is so much anger. Being vented of all indigenous people of the world, and rightfully so. As they have all been treated unfairly. Maybe, America could do what we have just done in Australia and say "SORRY" for all the wrong doings, by our ancestors. For us here, it was to say sorry for what we call 'The Stolen Generation.' Indigenous people that were removed from their families, because they were of mixed race. "Thank you Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, for making this possible". It has made me a very proud Australian, just to say, "SORRY"! I know there is still going to be a lot of hurt and distrust; however I hope the indigenous people of Australia, will start to heal from this action. Joshing is a term loosely used here in Australia, for taking the mickey out of people. However this is rather a sensitive issue. So it surprises me, he is using it, as he is defaming his native ancestry. Lorraine McCann Adelaide, South Australia. Sorry, Jodi, couldn't resist the "very fowl" in your message. :) He's not doing any harm. Let him vent, I would want to vent, too, if I was Native American, due to the way Whites have treated the Indian. Although I do admit that this board is not the right vehicle for venting. Hopefully once he gets rid of all that anger, he will become a good Genealogist and a credit to his race. And Standing Bear, the Cherokees were a great Race/Tribe and when the Lord restores them to their rightful place, I'll be standing on the sidelines cheering them one and all. He is not proven to be of the indigenous people and he is not of the Cherokee Nation and calling someone a Fruit Cake and things like Shut your Trap ( if you had bothered to read the post )He has called her worse in the past.If he called you that I don't think you would think it was venting! If he posted those messages on the Cherokee board I can tell you the true tribal members would have had him permanently kicked off Rootsweb/Ancestry. Especially making up a Fake Chief and telling people he is carded! All the person he attacked did was post genealogy! Isn't that what this board is for.Let him go get his own My Space if he wants to vent !! Back to Genealogy! To the peson who posted Sizemore and Cherokee. Call the Cherokee Nations your self. NO Sizemore claim was accepted in any of their tribes! Geanalogy and DNA- DNA doesn't and will not prove tribe should your DNA come up Indian. Many people come up with family stories of their family being Cherokee. There were many tribes in the surrounding area of Wilkes and in NC for that matter. All these tribes blended in together because of European settlers and removal. There are many sources on the web for Indian history in our area. Even for the VA tribes that got pushed our way. The tribes will get mad, especially the Cherokee if you claim your decscendants are of their tribe without paper record to prove it. Many back when claimed Cherokee but were denied. Many because they were not Indian ( free money and land ). Some because they may have been Indian but did not belong to the Cherokee tribe ( there are many tribes that did not get acknowledged by the government so some may have tried to apply to the Cherokee ). The other reason, if your ancestor was not living with the tribe at the time of enrollment and lived in " White Society " the Cherokee Nation decided that your ancestor was no longer entitled to be a trible member or it's benefits. Your ancestor was now considered " White". I have 2 people that I can prove have affiliations with the Cherokee ( both are enrolled members ) that are connected to my family, does this prove that my direct family was Cherokee, NO! Like I posted before. I can prove my Rio Grande heritage but not Cherokee. Jodi PS: Thank you Ms. Smith I have a few other people that agree with you. Thanks!!! --- Lorraine & Kevin McCann <[email protected]> wrote: > G'day, > > I also feel he is venting.
