    3. I was in an extremely old cemetery today . We were driving around Miller Creek. Not sure what Rd this cememtery is on we drove on Congo RD and on Minton RD and I think near Fish Dam creek??? Any way the cemetery had some newer stones Ellers and Nichols But half the cemetery was full of old wore done stones no marks on them. Some old stones with new markers put near them. Lydia Bumgarner 1794-1846 L Bumgarner 1775 -1818 C Bumgarner 1764- 1844 Also I think on Congo RD ?? I seen a lovely old white house. I think red trim. In the field below was an extremely old barn. The house faced a field . What was so cool about this old home that was kept up very nicely. Windows were very clean. There were great big round high ancient oak trees that were to the right of the home . One on each side of the beginning of a wide path that was layed out in very large old stones leading to the front entrance and on both sides of the path were very old green box wood shrubs or bushes nicely trimmed to line both sides of path. Just infront of the porch was a very large flat stone that was in the shape of a triangle to the porch steps. I sure would love to know what home stead that was when it was first built. I know it was one of the old ones. Jeanie --------------------------------- Stay in the know. Pulse on the new Yahoo.com. Check it out.

    3. Hi Jeanie and others, I have read some of your notes with interest as I have ancestry in that area as well. I live near Atlanta, but have visited Wilkes County several times in the past few years to do research. George McNeil (a third cousin and good of mine) has taken me to see the very place you describe in your note below. I took photos of these stones and of the site. If anyone wants to see them, here's the link to Leonard Bumgarner's stone: http://www.roots2buds.net/showheadstone.php?ID=3. His daughter, Lydia Bumgarner, is supposedly Stephen Bumgarner's mother (without the benefit of marriage), but I have not found definitive proof as of yet. If anyone is researching the following surnames from Wilkes County, please feel free to take a look at my site. I don't claim that the information is perfect, but much of it is well researched and documented. I would love to correspond with others of these lines. From the Millers Creek area: Bumgarner, Nichols, McNiel, Holdaway, Hincher/Hinchey/Hinchaw, Minton, Adams, Vannoy, Shepherd From the Brushy Mountain area: Gilreath, Hendren, Parlier, Hayes, Shin, Wallis, Souther, Cook, Combs, Ellis Thanks (and "Hi" to those I haven't talked with in a while!), Gail Rich Nestor Smyrna, GA www.roots2buds.net ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: jeanie stout <msjbostian@yahoo.com> Date: Aug 19, 2006 6:52 PM Subject: [NCWILKES] In very old cemetery To: NCWILKES-L@rootsweb.com I was in an extremely old cemetery today .
