I. Rhue of Cumberland Co. Celia Cox widow of Isaac Cox and the dau. of James and Celia Williams, whose maiden name was Matison; James and Celia’s family was composed of six children, 2 sons and 4 daus., of which Celia was the eldest and was born April 1, 1789, in Iredell Co., North Carolina. Married Isaac Cox, July 9, 1817, in Wilksburg, Wilks County, N. C. He was the son of Thomas and Bethenia Cox, whose maiden name was Aldrich. Thomas and Bethenia’s family was composed of 7 children, 5 sons and 2 daus., of which Isaac was the 3rd child. He was born in South Carolina, March 16, 1780. Isaac’s father was one of the early pioneers of So. Carolina. Was a hatter while Celia’s father was the owner of over 400 acres of land and followed smithing in N. Carolina. Isaac and Celia Cox settled on a farm in Iredell Co No. Carolina where they stayed 2 yrs. In 1819 they moved to Virginia, then the following place Tenn., then back to Iredell Co., N. C. in 1820, 1836 to Tenn., then to Rush, Henry, Hamilton, Green, Hancock Counties, Indiana and from there to Hutton Twp., Coles Co., Ill., in 1856, where she resided at her death. Ten children, 3 sons and 7 daus. I Calvin Cox, born June 3, 1818-died 15 years of age. II Lucinda Cox, born April 25, 1820- mar. James Mills died leaving two heirs. III Jennie Cox, born May 12, 1822- died when 4 years of age. IV Thomas Cox, born May 18, 1824- Thomas had ten children- Twins V Sara Cox, born May 18, 1824- mar. Henry Bell and had six children- died March 16, 1853. VI Cenia Evaline Cox, born Oct. 22, 1828-mar. John Bell. VII Elizabeth Cox, born June 12, 1830- VIII Nancy Elvira Cox, born Dec. 27, 1831- mar. Abraham Rhue and had 7 ch. 6 sons and one dau. IX Isaac Williams Cox, born Aug. 24, 1834- was killed by a falling tree when 11 yrs. old. X Pheba Cox, born June 18, 1836- mar. Monroe Winn and had nine children. Celia Cox had 34 grandchildren, 25 of whom were living when she was 101 years of age. 60 great grand children- 44 living. Three great great grand children all living. She united with the Baptist Church in North Carolina in 1823- and was known by everyone as Grandma Cox.”
