    3. I can tell you that a William Kennedy owned property in Roaring Gap, Wilkes County. The surname spelling bounces around as you note. The area is on Hwy. 21, just south of Alleghany line and just west of Surry line. When I say just west of Surry line, I've seen adjacent deeds where the county line occurs in the metes and bounds. The deeds I'm talking about were early 1800's. I recently ordered a copy of the will of Aaron Kannedy (Kennedy, Canady), Surry Co., NC, Will Book B, p.228, dated Feb. 15, 1844 (might be 1845, but the word looks more like "four"), proved May term 1845. There are some people I don't recognize. (Some of the Kennedys/Canadys lived over the county line in Wilkes County so I am posted this on both message boards.) The will names Aaron's wife Temperance, daughters Jane ROBERTS, Febee DOUGLASS, [?]phinia POOR [might be Sophronia POOR], sons John KANNEDY and William KANNEDY, grandson Harrison HAINES, grandson Daniel SEATON? (maybe SEXTON or LEATON] who is the "son of my daughter Sally", Elizabeth BASSWELL (relationship not specified), and Ruffin KANNEDY (relationship not specified). "Worthy friend" Elijah THOMPSON was the executor. Witnesses were Ruffin KANNEDY and Alfred JACKSON. Marriage bonds show a Phebe KENNEDY who married William DOUGLAS on Nov. 18, 1824, Surry Co., NC. Otherwise, I can't identify any of these daughters. Ruffin Kennedy may be a grandson. My ancestor William Kennedy (thought to be the son of Aaron Kennedy/Canady) had a son named Ruffin b. 1820. There are some discrepancies with other family trees I have seen which indicate that Aaron Kennedy had sons named Larkin Kennedy and Aaron H. Kennedy (neither mentioned in the will), and a daughter named Elizabeth Kennedy who married Job WINFREY (also not mentioned in the will) (unless she is Elizabeth BASSWELL, perhaps married a 2nd time). The will appears to disinherit Elizabeth BASSWELL and grandson Daniel SEATON(?) ("son of my daughter Sally) by leaving each one dollar "and no more." Does anyone have any information relevant to the above? Thanks! Rebecca Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
